The Max Awards are prizes awarded once a year to the best scenic arts professionals in Spain. They are considered the Moliere or Lawrence Olivier Spanish awards, and there are already finalists.

The XV edition of the awards will take place in April, with prominent artists like Blanca Portillo and Miguel de Arco, nominated for several prizes.  Joan Brosa created a sculpture in the shape of an apple for the award to be given in this festival.

Portillo has been nominated for her part in the play “La avería”, a theatre adaptation by Fernando Sansegundo of a story of Dürrenmatt and De Arco for the show “Veraneantes”, a personal scenic recreation of the Gogol novel.

The voters, who are also professionals of the scenic arts, must decide who will be the winners, but just by looking at the finalists, we can see that they have chosen creative shows with a new revolutionary perspective. They are all part of a new generation that breaks away from traditional theatre.

Another example of this new trend at the Festival are the artists with the highest number of nominations, Alfredo Sanzol and Claudio Tolcachir. Both, in one way or another, presented innovative proposals.

The organisers of the awards, Fundación Autor de la SGAE, like to travel and have already gone to several different areas of Spain. After Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao or Sevilla, Madrid will once again be the city that hosts the new edition of the awards, on the 30th of april in the Circo Price Theatre.

The rest of the nominees are listed on the official Max awards website. http://www.premiosmax.com/home/index.php
