Los mejores estrenos de abril

¡Feliz abril a todos! Con la llegada de la primavera y los días cada vez más largos, ¿qué mejor momento para salir a la calle y hacer planes? Para los amantes del cine, cambiar las tardes de manta y película en el sofá por un plan primaveral que termine en una sala de cine ¡es una excelente idea! Por eso, aquí os traemos cinco estrenos muy interesantes de este mes. Esta vez no incluimos opciones tan aptas para los más pequeños, pero sí una gran variedad de nacionalidades.

Empezamos con la primera película, de casa. Se trata de ‘Pájaros’, que se estrena el 5 de abril. Protagonizada por los grandes actores Luis Zahera, quien ganó el premio a mejor actor en el reciente Festival de Málaga por la película, Javier Gutiérrez, Teresa Saponangelo, y dirigida por Pau Durà. Un día Mario aparece en el garaje de Colombo y lo contrata de chófer para ir a la Costa Brava a ver grullas. Al llegar a su destino, le cuenta que las aves han variado su rumbo migratorio hacia el delta del Danubio. Como Colombo necesita el dinero, acepta llegar hasta allí. Ocultando sus verdaderos motivos, emprenden un viaje que los llevará a conocerse mejor y enfrentarse a sí mismos.

El siguiente estreno viene de Bélgica; ‘La chica que sanaba’ llega el 19 de abril a nuestros cines. El film está escrito y dirigido por Fien Troch, y es una coproducción Bélgica-Países Bajos-Francia-Luxemburgo. Holly es una niña de 15 años que llama a su colegio para decir que ese día se queda en casa. Poco después, se produce un incendio en la escuela en el que mueren varios alumnos. Anna, una profesora intrigada por Holly y su extraña premonición, la invita a unirse al grupo de voluntariado que dirige. La presencia de Holly parece traer paz mental, calidez y esperanza. El film ha estado nominado a Mejor Película en los festivales de Venecia y Gijón.

Las siguientes tres recomendaciones se estrenan todas el 26 de abril. Iniciamos con ‘El especialista’, la nueva película de Ryan Gosling y Emily Blunt dirigida por David Leitch. Se trata de un thriller de acción inspirado en la serie de televisión de los años 80 creada por Glen A. Larson. La trama sigue a Colt Seavers, un doble de acción que, tras un accidente que casi acaba con su carrera, decide centrarse en su salud física y mental. Sin embargo, Colt se verá atrapado en una siniestra trama criminal cuando le propongan participar en la nueva película dirigida por su ex, Jody Moreno, cuyo protagonista ha desaparecido.

Continuamos con el cine de Hollywood, y es que ‘Rivales’, protagonizada por la increíble Zendaya y dirigida por Luca Guadagnino. Ambientada en el competitivo mundo del tenis profesional, la historia sigue a Tashi, una jugadora convertida en entrenadora que ha transformado a su marido Art en un campeón de Grand Slam. Sin embargo, tras una racha de derrotas, Tashi le inscribe a en un evento “Challenger”, donde Art deberá enfrentarse a Patrick, el antiguo novio de Tashi. A medida que sus pasados y presentes chocan, las tensiones aumentan.

Para terminar, nos vamos hasta Italia, donde Paola Cortellesi ha dirigido la película ‘Siempre nos quedará mañana’. Es primavera y toda la familia está alborotada por el inminente compromiso de la querida hija mayor, Marcella. Marcella solo espera casarse rápidamente con un simpático chico de clase media, Giulio, y librarse por fin de esa incómoda familia. La película se desarrolla en la Italia de los años 40 y ofrece un equilibrio entre drama y humor mientras explora la condición de la mujer en esa época.

Y hasta aquí las recomendaciones de este mes. Esperamos que hayan despertado vuestro interés y disfrutéis de un bonito plan primaveral con alguna (o varias de ellas).

April's Best Premieres

Happy April everyone! With the arrival of spring and the days getting longer, what better time to go out and make plans? For movie lovers, swapping cozy evenings with a blanket and a film on the couch for a springtime plan that ends in a movie theater is an excellent idea! That's why we bring you five very interesting premieres for this month. This time, we don't include options suitable for the little ones, but rather a great variety of nationalities.

We start with the first film, from home. It's 'Birds', which premieres on April 5th. Starring the great actors Luis Zahera, who won the award for Best Actor at the recent Málaga Film Festival for the movie, Javier Gutiérrez, Teresa Saponangelo, and directed by Pau Durà. One day, Mario appears in Colombo's garage and hires him as a driver to go to the Costa Brava to see cranes. Upon reaching their destination, he tells him that the birds have changed their migratory route towards the Danube Delta. Since Colombo needs the money, he agrees to go there. Hiding their true motives, they embark on a journey that will lead them to know each other better and face themselves.

The next premiere comes from Belgium; 'Holly' arrives on April 19th in our cinemas. The film is written and directed by Fien Troch, and it's a co-production of Belgium-Netherlands-France-Luxembourg. Holly is a 15-year-old girl who calls her school to say that she's staying home that day. Shortly afterward, a fire breaks out at the school in which several students die. Anna, a teacher intrigued by Holly and her strange premonition, invites her to join the volunteer group she leads. Holly's presence seems to bring mental peace, warmth, and hope. The film has been nominated for Best Picture at the Venice and Gijón festivals.

The next three recommendations all premiere on April 26th. We start with 'The Specialist', the new film starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt directed by David Leitch. It's an action thriller inspired by the 80s TV series created by Glen A. Larson. The plot follows Colt Seavers, a stuntman who, after an accident that almost ends his career, decides to focus on his physical and mental health. However, Colt will be trapped in a sinister criminal plot when he is proposed to participate in the new film directed by his ex, Jody Moreno, whose lead actor has disappeared.

We continue with Hollywood cinema, and that's 'Challengers', starring the incredible Zendaya and directed by Luca Guadagnino. Set in the competitive world of professional tennis, the story follows Tashi, a player turned coach who has turned her husband Art into a Grand Slam champion. However, after a string of defeats, Tashi signs him up for a "Challenger" event, where Art must face Patrick, Tashi's former boyfriend. As their past and present collide, tensions rise.

To finish, we go to Italy, where Paola Cortellesi has directed the film 'C’è ancora domani'. It's spring and the whole family is excited about the imminent engagement of the beloved eldest daughter, Marcella. Marcella just hopes to quickly marry a nice middle-class boy, Giulio, and finally get rid of that uncomfortable family. The film is set in Italy in the 1940s and offers a balance between drama and humor while exploring the condition of women at that time.

Los Goya 2024: Una gala “soñada” y protagonizada por ‘La sociedad de la nieve’

El pasado sábado 10 de febrero, se celebró en Valladolid la noche más importante del año para el cine español. Desde las 22:04 de la noche pudimos disfrutar de una gala emocionante, reivindicativa y divertida, presentada con maestría por los Javis (la pareja formada por Javier Ambrossi y Javier Calvo) y Ana Belén.

La 38 edición de Los Goya arrancaba con los Javis en pijama en un sofá, imaginando cómo sería su “gala soñada”, y transformándola en realidad. Así, el número que abría la gala lo protagonizaron Amaia, íntima amiga de loa Javis, y David Bisbal, interpretando ‘Mi Gran Noche’, de Raphael.

Casi 3 horas y media de gala dieron para mucho, pero hubo algunos momentos estelares de la noche que brillan un poco más en nuestros recuerdos. A continuación, haremos un pequeño repaso de lo más destacado de la noche.

Aunque está claro que fue una noche mágica para todos los nominados y premiados, hubo un claro protagonista, que eclipsó gran parte de la noche: la última obra maestra de J.A Bayona, ‘La sociedad de la nieve’.

Al arrancar la noche la película tenía 13 nominaciones, 2 menos que ’20.000 especies de abejas’, de Estíbaliz Urresola. Al concluir la gala, ‘La sociedad de la nieve’ se convertía en la tercera película más premiada de la historia de los Goya, con 12 estatuillas, solo superada por ‘¡Ay, Carmela!’ de 1990, con 13, y ‘Mar adentro’ de 2004, con 15.

Con un presupuesto estimado de 60 millones de euros, la película se hizo, de manera más que merecida, con los premios a ‘Mejor Dirección’, ‘Mejor Película’, ‘Mejor sonido’, ‘Mejor Actor Revelación’, ‘Mejor Dirección de Fotografía’, ‘Mejor montaje’, ‘Mejor Música Original’, ‘Mejor Dirección de Arte’, ‘Mejor Diseño de Vestuario’, ‘Mejor Maquillaje y Peluquería’, ‘Mejores Efectos Especiales’, y ‘Mejor Dirección de Producción’. La única estatuilla que se le escapó fue la de ‘Mejor Guion Adaptado’. En este caso, el premio fue para la historia de animación ‘Robot Dreams’, de Pablo Berger, que es precisamente la otra película que representará a España en los Oscars.

De las 12 veces que ‘La sociedad de la nieve’ se subió al escenario a recoger el premio, la que mejor recordamos fue el momento de recoger el premio a ‘Mejor Actor Revelación’. El argentino Matías Recalt pronunció un emotivo discurso de agradecimiento, en el que al final, con una voz rota, le dedicaba el premio a su padre, que falleció justo cuando el actor empezaba a trabajar en la película.

La película de Estíbaliz obtuvo 3 premios, entre ellos a ‘Mejor Dirección Novel’.

En las categorías de ‘Mejor Actor y Actriz Protagonista’ recogieron sus premios David Verdaguer por ‘Saben aquell’ y Malena Alterio por ‘Que nadie duerma’.

Sigourney Weaver recogió el ‘Goya Internacional’ de manos de su amigo J.A Bayona, y en su brillante y completo discurso, en el que, entre otras cosas, hablaba de lo orgullosa que estaba de estar ahí y de su admiración al cine español, caben destacar las palabras y el reconocimiento que le dedicó a María López, su dobladora al castellano.

Como hemos dicho, también fue una noche de reivindicaciones. Hubo alegatos contra la violencia sexual: “Aquí en el cine también se acabó…esto nos atañe a todos” sentenciaban los presentadores de la gala. No fueron pocos los artistas que también aprovecharon su momento ante el micrófono para hablar del genocidio en Gaza, defender la paz, la diversidad de raza en el cine español, o la importancia del cine en nuestra cultura y la importancia de las subvenciones.

Esto ha sido solo un pequeño resumen de la noche. The Goya Awards 2024: A "dreamed" gala starring 'Society of the Snow'.

On Saturday, February 10th, the most important night of the year for Spanish cinema took place in Valladolid. From 10:04 PM onwards, we enjoyed an exciting, assertive, and fun gala, masterfully hosted by the Javis and Ana Belén.

The 38th edition of the Goya Awards started with the Javis in pajamas on a sofa, imagining what their "dreamed gala" would be like, and turning it into reality. Thus, the opening number featured Amaia and David Bisbal, performing Raphael's 'Mi Gran Noche'.

Almost 3 and a half hours of the gala provided plenty of memorable moments, but there were some stellar moments of the night that shine a bit brighter in our memories. Below, we'll briefly review the highlights of the night.

While it's clear that it was a magical night for all nominees and winners, there was a clear protagonist that overshadowed much of the night: J.A. Bayona's latest masterpiece, 'Society of the Snow'. At the start of the night, the film had 13 nominations, 2 less than '20,000 Species of Bees' by Estíbaliz Urresola. By the end of the gala, 'Society of the Snow ' became the third most awarded film in the history of the Goya Awards, with 12 statuettes, surpassed only by '¡Ay, Carmela!'  in 1990, with 13 and 'The Sea Inside' in 2004, with 15.

With an estimated budget of 60 million euros, the film deservedly took home awards for 'Best Direction,' 'Best Film,' 'Best Sound,' 'Best Emerging Actor,' 'Best Cinematography,' 'Best Editing,' 'Best Original Music,' 'Best Art Direction,' 'Best Costume Design,' 'Best Makeup and Hairstyling,' 'Best Special Effects,' and 'Best Production Direction.' The only award that eluded it was 'Best Adapted Screenplay,' which went to the animated film 'Robot Dreams' by Pablo Berger, the other film representing Spain at the Oscars.

Of the 12 times 'The Snow Society' took the stage to receive an award, the one we remember the most was when Argentine Matías Recalt accepted the 'Best Emerging Actor' award. He delivered an emotional speech, dedicating the award to his father, who passed away just as the actor began working on the film.

Estíbaliz's film won 3 awards, including 'Best New Director.' In the categories of 'Best Actor and Actress in a Leading Role,' David Verdaguer for 'Saben aquell' and Malena Alterio for 'Something is about to happen' received their awards.

Sigourney Weaver received the 'International Goya' from her friend J.A. Bayona. In her brilliant and comprehensive speech, where she expressed pride in being there and admiration for Spanish cinema, she highlighted words of appreciation for María López, her Spanish voice actress.

As mentioned, it was also a night of advocacy. There were pleas against sexual violence: "Here in the cinema, it's over too...this concerns us all," declared the gala hosts. Many artists also took their moment at the microphone to speak about the genocide in Gaza, advocate for peace, diversity of race in Spanish cinema, or the importance of cinema in our culture and the importance of subsidies.

Gala de los Oscar 2024: Ya conocemos la lista de nominaciones

Hola a todos, una semana más. Estamos muy contentos porque la temporada de nuestros premios favoritos está a la vuelta de la esquina. Cada vez queda menos para conocer los ganadores de los premios de cine más importantes de España y de Hollywood. Hoy estamos aquí para hablar de los Premios Oscar, ya que la pasada semana conocimos la lista de nominados oficiales.

La gala de entrega de galardones de la Academia de Hollywood se celebrará el 10 de marzo, durante la madrugada del domingo al lunes en España.

El fenómeno 'Barbenheimer' partía como favorito después de un año en el que tanto 'Barbie' como 'Oppenheimer' se han adelantado al resto de títulos en taquilla.

Lily Gladstone encabezaba gran parte de las apuestas en su categoría, mientras que Cillian Murphy y Bradley Cooper tendrán que pelear por la estatuilla a 'Mejor Actor', categoría que para sorpresa de muchos no incluye a Leonardo Dicaprio por su papel en 'Los Asesinos de la Luna'.

Como resumen, entre las nominaciones de los Oscars 2024 destaca claramente 'Oppenheimer', con 13 candidaturas, seguida de cerca por 'Pobres criaturas', con 11, y 'Los asesinos de la luna', con 10.

A estos 3 primeros títulos les sigue de cerca 'Barbie', con 8 nominaciones.  'Maestro' finalmente ha recibido 7 nominaciones, y 'Anatomía de una caída', 'Los que se quedan', 'La zona de interés' y 'American Fiction', han obtenido 5 candidaturas cada una.

Para muchos ha sido una sorpresa la ausencia de 'Margot Robbie' o 'Greta Gerwing' en esta lista, y Ryan Gosling ya ha dado declaraciones “No hay Ken sin Barbie. Decir que estoy decepcionado de que no estén nominadas en sus respectivas categorías se quedaría corto…”

En las nominaciones españolas podemos presumir de las dos nominaciones a 'La sociedad de la nieve' (' Mejor Película Internacional' y ' Mejor Maquillaje y Peluquería') y de la presencia de la estupenda 'Robot Dreams' en la candidatura a mejor película de animación.

Y para terminar, vamos a enumerar los nominados en las candidaturas a 'Mejor Película', ' Mejor Director'  y 'Mejor Actor/Actriz Protagonista'. ¡Nosotros ya nos estamos poniendo al día para ver todas las pelis que nos faltan en la lista!

Oscar Gala 2024: Final list of nominations

Hello everyone, one more week. We are very excited because the season of our favorite awards is just around the corner. We are getting closer to finding out the winners of the most important film awards in Spain and Hollywood. Today, we are here to talk about the Oscars, as last week we learned the list of official nominees.

The Academy Awards ceremony will take place on March 10, during the night from Sunday to Monday in Spain.

The 'Barbenheimer' phenomenon was the favorite after a year in which both 'Barbie' and 'Oppenheimer' surpassed the rest of the titles at the box office.

Lily Gladstone led many of the bets in her category, while Cillian Murphy and Bradley Cooper will have to compete for the 'Best Actor' statuette, a category that surprisingly does not include Leonardo DiCaprio for his role in 'The Killers of the Flower Moon.'

In summary, among the nominations for the 2024 Oscars, 'Oppenheimer' clearly stands out with 13 nominations, closely followed by 'Poor Creatures' with 11, and 'The Killers of the Flower Moon' with 10.

Following these top 3 titles closely is 'Barbie' with 8 nominations. 'Maestro' has finally received 7 nominations, and 'Anatomy of a Fall', 'The Holdovers', ' 'The Zone of Interest', and 'American Fiction' have each received 5 nominations.

For many, the absence of 'Margot Robbie' or 'Greta Gerwing' on this list has been a surprise, and Ryan Gosling has already made statements: "There's no Ken without Barbie. To say that I'm disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be a fall short..."

In the Spanish nominations, we can boast of the two nominations for 'Society of the Snow' ('Best International Film' and 'Best Makeup and Hairstyling') and the presence of the excellent 'Robot Dreams' in the candidacy for the best animated film.

La sociedad de la nieve: la nueva obra maestra de Bayona

Aquí os traemos el primer blog del año, y como no podía ser de otra manera, vamos a hablar del estreno del que todo el mundo está hablando. Se trata de ‘La Sociedad de la nieve’, disponible en Netflix desde el 4 de enero, aunque desde mediados de diciembre se puede disfrutar en salas de cines. La película está dirigida y escrita por J.A Bayona, basada en el libro homónimo de Pablo Vierci, que a su vez se basa en el documental homónimo de Gonzalo Arijón. La historia relata el accidente del vuelo ‘571’ de la Fuerza Aérea Uruguaya en la cordillera de los Andes en 1972.

Bayona descubrió el libro de Vierci mientras investigaba para su película de ‘Lo imposible’, y acabó comprando los derechos del libro. Esto supone que Bayona ha tardado 10 años en poder rodar la película “como él quería”, esto es: con acento uruguayo, actores locales, y de la manera más realista posible. En el trabajo de investigación para conocer lo sucedido, los realizadores grabaron más de 100 horas de entrevistas con todos los supervivientes; además los actores tuvieron contacto con los supervivientes y las familias de las víctimas.

La mayor parte del film fue rodado en Sierra Nevada (Granada), aunque también se rodó en Montevideo (Uruguay) y en los Andes. Las grabaciones en Sierra Nevada tuvieron lugar desde el 10 de enero de 2022 hasta el 29 de abril.

No en vano ganó el Premio del Público en el Festival de San Sebastián a la Mejor Película, y es una de las favoritas en la próxima edición de los Goya, con un total de 13 nominaciones. Además, es la elegida para representar a España en la Gala de los Oscar 2024, de la cual sabremos la lista de nominaciones el próximo 23 de enero.

Esta no ha sido la primera vez que se ha hecho una película de aquella tragedia, puesto que en 1976 se estrenó la primera película del suceso, y Hollywood también la llevó al cine en 1993, dirigida por Frank Marshall. También se han hecho decenas de libros (algunos de ellos escritos por supervivientes), podcasts, documentales… Sin embargo, en palabras del director y de los mismos supervivientes, esta película ha supuesto la primera vez que todos los ellos han estado de acuerdo en la recreación y fidelidad de la narración; en cómo se reflejan las condiciones que vivieron. Además, esta es la única de las tres películas en las que se mantienen los nombres reales de los pasajeros del avión.

Uno de los mayores dilemas a la hora de crear la película estuvo a la hora de elegir el punto de vista de la narración. Bayona ha elegido un punto de vista que busca “rescatar la memoria de aquellos que hicieron posible que volvieran los supervivientes”. Así, la historia es contada Numa Turcatti, interpretado por Enzo Vogrincic, uno de los héroes que no pudo llegar hasta el final.

La película habla de la increíble gesta que hicieron, del compañerismo y de no dejar a nadie atrás. Os hará emocionar, y entender un poquito más cómo fue la experiencia para aquellos que lo vivieron (incluso de las duras condiciones en el rodaje).

Con esta breve introducción a la película esperamos que si aún no la habíais visto, no tardéis en disfrutar de esta auténtica y conmovedora experiencia cinematográfica.

Society of the Snow: Bayona's New Masterpiece

Here we bring you the first blog of the year, and as it could not be otherwise, we are going to talk about the premiere that everyone is talking about. It's 'Society of the Snow' available on Netflix since January 4, although it has been available in theaters since mid-December. The film is directed and written by J.A. Bayona, based on the eponymous book by Pablo Vierci, which in turn is based on the eponymous documentary by Gonzalo Arijón. The story recounts the accident of Uruguayan Air Force Flight '571' in the Andes Mountains in 1972.

Bayona discovered Vierci's book while researching for his film 'The Impossible' and ended up buying the rights to the book. This means that Bayona has spent 10 years being able to shoot the film "as he wanted," that is: with a Uruguayan accent, local actors, and as realistically as possible. In the research work to understand what happened, the filmmakers recorded over 100 hours of interviews with all the survivors; in addition, the actors had contact with the survivors and the families of the victims.

Most of the film was shot in Sierra Nevada (Granada), although it was also filmed in Montevideo (Uruguay) and in the Andes. The recordings in Sierra Nevada took place from January 10, 2022, to April 29.

Not in vain, it won the Audience Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival for Best Film and is one of the favorites in the upcoming Goya Awards, with a total of 13 nominations. Furthermore, it is the chosen one to represent Spain at the 2024 Oscars Gala, of which we will know the list of nominations on January 23.

This is not the first time a movie has been made about that tragedy, as the first film about the incident was released in 1976, and Hollywood also brought it to the screen in 1993, directed by Frank Marshall. Dozens of books (some written by survivors), podcasts, documentaries have also been made. However, in the words of the director and the survivors themselves, this film has been the first time they have all agreed on the recreation and fidelity of the narrative; on how the conditions they lived through are reflected. Additionally, this is the only one of the three films in which the real names of the plane's passengers are maintained.

One of the biggest dilemmas in creating the film was choosing the narrative point of view. Bayona has chosen a perspective that seeks to "rescue the memory of those who made it possible for the survivors to return." Thus, the story is told by Numa Turcatti, played by Enzo Vogrincic, one of the heroes who could not make it to the end.

The film talks about the incredible feat they accomplished, about camaraderie and not leaving anyone behind. It will make you feel emotional and help you understand a little more about what the experience was like for those who lived it (even under the harsh conditions during filming).

PREMIOS GOYA 2024: Todo lo que necesitais saber

El pasado jueves 30 de noviembre se anunciaron las nominaciones de la próxima gala de los Goya, de la mano de Anna Castillo y Luis Tosar.

Esta semana repasaremos todo lo que sabemos a cerca de la ceremonia, para que el 10 de febrero estéis totalmente preparados.

Los Premios Goya 2024 se celebrarán en Valladolid, llegando por primera vez a Castilla y León. La ceremonia tendrá lugar el sábado 10 de febrero, y estará presentada por Los Javis, que hace poco estrenaron ‘La Mesías’ en Movistar Plus y ya es considerada una de las mejores series españolas de la historia; y María Belén, quien recibió el Goya de Honor en 2016.

La Junta Directiva de la Academia de Cine ha decidido otorgarle el Goya de Honor 2024 al director de fotografía, restaurador e investigador catalán Juan Mariné, "por su entera dedicación al cine durante más de ochenta años de trayectoria que transitan por la historia del cine español, por sus esfuerzos en el trabajo de la conservación y la restauración fílmico, y por representar vivamente, a través de su oficio, la importancia de la luz en la historia de nuestro cine".

Respecto a los nominados, '20.000 especies de abejas', de Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren, se ha convertido en el debut más nominado de la historia de los premios con 15 candidaturas, superando las 14 a las que optó 'El orfanato' de J.A Bayona en 2007. 'La sociedad de la nieve', también de Bayona, sigue de cerca al film de Solaguren, con 13 nominaciones candidaturas. Tras ellas tenemos 'Saben aquell', de David Trueba, y 'Cerrar los ojos', de Víctor Erice.

GOYA AWARDS 2024: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

On Thursday, November 30th, the nominations for the upcoming Goya Awards Gala were announced, presented by Anna Castillo and Luis Tosar.

This week, we'll review everything we know about the ceremony to ensure you're fully prepared for February 10th.

The 2024 Goya Awards will take place in Valladolid, marking the first time it arrives in Castilla y León. The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, February 10th, and will be hosted by Los Javis, known for their recent release 'La Mesías' on Movistar Plus, now considered one of the best Spanish series in history, and María Belén, who received the Goya Honor in 2016.

The Board of Directors of the Film Academy has decided to award the 2024 Goya Honor to the Catalan director of photography, restorer, and researcher Juan Mariné. This honor is bestowed "for his lifelong dedication to cinema spanning over eighty years of a career that traverses the history of Spanish cinema, for his efforts in the conservation and restoration of films, and for vividly representing the importance of light in the history of our cinema through his craft."

Regarding the nominees, '20,000 Species of Bees' by Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren has become the most nominated debut in the history of the awards with 15 nominations, surpassing the 14 of 'El Orfanato' by J.A. Bayona in 2007. 'La Sociedad de la Nieve' also by Bayona, closely follows Solaguren's film with 13 nominations. Following them are 'Saben Aquell' by David Trueba and 'Cerrar los Ojos' by Víctor Erice.
