Halloween está a la vuelta de la esquina, y eso solo significa una cosa: es hora de adentrarse en el emocionante mundo del cine de terror. Este año, tanto si prefieres vivir la experiencia en la gran pantalla, como si optas por quedarte en casa y disfrutar de los sustos desde tu sofá, estás de suerte todos. Y para aquellos que buscan disfrutar en familia, también hay películas aptas para los más pequeños. A continuación te presentamos los mejores estrenos de miedo, para que este Halloween sea inolvidable.

Para los amantes de los clásicos de terror, llega una oportunidad única. Con motivo del 50 aniversario de su estreno mundial, ‘El Exorcista’ vuelve a las salas de cine a partir del 27 de octubre. Esta obra maestra dirigida por William Friedkin narra la aterradora historia de Regan MacNeil, una niña cuyo comportamiento inquietante lleva a su madre a buscar la ayuda de un sacerdote para realizar un exorcismo. Con impactantes escenas y efectos especiales revolucionarios, esta película sigue siendo una referencia del género.

Tras ver "El Exorcista", no te pierdas su secuela, ‘El Exorcista: Creyente dirigida por David Gordon Green y estrenada el 6 de octubre como ya mencionamos anteriormente en nuestro anterior blog. La historia sigue a Víctor Fielding, quien, después de la muerte de su esposa en un terremoto en Haití, debe buscar respuestas cuando su hija y su amiga desaparecen en el bosque, y regresan sin recordar lo sucedido. Un misterio que le llevará a buscar a Chris MacNeil, la única persona que ha presenciado algo similar.

Siguiendo con la lista, el 1 de noviembre se estrena ‘Five Nights at Freddy´s’, dirigida por Emma Tammi y basada en la franquicia de videojuegos con el mismo nombre. Protagonizada por Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Mary Stuart Masterson y Matthew Lillard, habla de la historia de un hombre que comienza un trabajo como guardia de seguridad nocturno en el restaurante Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, donde descubre que los animatrónicos se mueven por la noche y matan a cualquiera que vean.

Si prefieres una opción más breve para entrar en el espíritu de Halloween, te recomendamos ‘El flashback’, un corto de terror dirigido de Jed Shepherd. Narra la historia de una profesora de yoga, Jess (Jemma Moore), que comienza a tener visiones de una figura de su niñez transformada en una versión de la parca. Cuando su novio Scott (Amar Chadha-Patel) y ella son asesinados, Jess intenta acceder y reconfigurar el pasado para proteger al hombre que ama en el presente.

Para terminar, os dejamos la recomendación que prometimos para disfrutar con los más pequeños. La plataforma Disney+ lanzó en verano ‘La Mansión encantada’. La película, dirigida por Justin Simien, cuenta con un espectacular reparto:  LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito y Jared Leto, son solo algunos de los actores que protagonizan la cinta. Trata de cómo una mujer y su hijo reclutan a un grupo de expertos espirituales para que les ayuden a liberar su hogar de unos ocupantes sobrenaturales.

New Releases for This Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner, and that only means one thing: it's time to dive into the thrilling world of horror cinema. This year, whether you prefer to experience it on the big screen or opt to stay at home and enjoy the scares from your couch, you're in luck. And for those looking to enjoy with the family, there are also films suitable for the little ones. Below, we present the best horror releases to make this Halloween unforgettable.

For classic horror enthusiasts, a unique opportunity awaits. In celebration of its 50th-anniversary world premiere, "The Exorcist" returns to theaters from October 27th. This masterpiece directed by William Friedkin tells the terrifying tale of Regan MacNeil, a girl whose disturbing behavior leads her mother to seek the help of a priest to perform an exorcism. With its shocking scenes and revolutionary special effects, this film remains a genre-defining classic.

After watching "The Exorcist," don't miss its sequel, "The Exorcist: Believer" directed by David Gordon Green and released on October 6th, as previously mentioned in our earlier blog. Disney+ anuncia la cuarta temporada de "Solo Asesinatos en el Edificio"

Hace tres años, Disney+ estrenó esta exitosa comedia estadounidense creada por John Hoffman y Steve Martin, con el mismo Steve Martin junto a Martin Short y Selena Gómez en los papeles protagonistas. Tras el éxito de su tercera temporada y su intrigante final, era de esperar que la plataforma no tardase en confirmar que el trío de detectives aficionados estaría de vuelta en una cuarta temporada para resolver este nuevo crimen.

Los “cliffhanger” son el recurso que ha elegido la serie para el cierre de sus temporadas. Tras lo que parecía un final idílico, la anterior temporada acababa con el asesinato de un personaje que aun no había aparecido en la serie, pero que todos los espectadores conocíamos: el actor Paul Rudd se incorporaba a la serie para convertirse en la siguiente víctima. Su personaje, Ben Glenroy, era asesinado en el estreno de la obra de Oliver.

Un aspecto especial de la serie es que ha ido contando con la participación de estrellas invitadas a lo largo de sus temporadas. Disney+ announces the fourth season of "Only Murders in the Building."

Three years ago, Disney+ premiered this successful American comedy created by John Hoffman and Steve Martin, with Steve Martin himself, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez in the lead roles. Following the success of its third season and its intriguing ending, it was expected that the platform wouldn't be long in confirming that the trio of amateur detectives would be returning for a fourth season to solve this new crime.

Cliffhangers have been the chosen device for closing each season of the series. After what seemed like an idyllic ending, the previous season concluded with the murder of a character who had not yet appeared in the series but was known to all viewers: actor Paul Rudd joined the series only to become the next victim. His character, Ben Glenroy, was killed during the premiere of Oliver's play.

A unique aspect of the series is its inclusion of guest stars throughout its seasons. A-list actors like Cara Delevingne and Nathan Lane participated in previous seasons, and this time around, Oscar-winning Meryl Streep and the aforementioned Paul Rudd, a Golden Globe nominee, joined the cast.

Algunos de los estrenos más esperados de este octubre

Con motivo del final del verano y la vuelta a la rutina, hemos querido hacerte un repaso de algunos de los estrenos en cines de este mes de octubre. ¡Tenemos que aprovechar que aun hace buen tiempo y que el cuerpo todavía nos pide salir de casa y hacer cosas diferentes! Además, hace poco se ha celebrado la Fiesta del Cine, y seguro que, como nosotros, muchos habréis acabado con casi todas las películas que había disponibles en la cartelera.

Aquí os dejamos una lista para todos los gustos:

Empezando en orden cronológico, este 6 de octubre se ha estrenado “El Exorcista: Creyente”. Coincidiendo con el 50 aniversario de la película original, este reboot dirigido por David Gordon Green es perfecto para aquellos a los que les guste el cine de terror. Es una elección redonda teniendo en cuenta que estamos en el mes de Halloween. La idea es que sirva como el inicio de una nueva trilogía, inspirado en el éxito de trilogías recientes en el mundo del cine de terror. ¿La trama principal? Ya la conocemos todos: una niña de 12 años poseída por una entidad demoníaca, que obliga a su madre a buscar ayuda un sacerdote para intentar salvarla.

La siguiente en nuestra lista es la película española “O Corno”, que se estrenará el 11 de octubre en cines. Rodada en gallego, este film de la cineasta Jaoine Combarda se llevó en el Festival de Cine de San Sebastián la Concha de Oro. Situándose en la Galicia de los 70, María es una matrona conocida en el pueblo, que tras un inesperado suceso deberá abandonar su hogar y cruzar la frontera con Portugal en busca de su libertad y supervivencia. Es una conmovedora historia sobre la maternidad y la solidaridad entre mujeres que no dejará indiferente a nadie.

Seguimos con otro estreno español, y es que este 11 de octubre también se estrena “Me he hecho viral”, la nueva película de Blanca Suárez y Nicolás Fortudo, dirigida por Jorge Coira. La protagonista Mabel se hace viral durante un vuelo, lo pondrá patas arriba su vida. El personaje interpretado por Blanca Suárez se enfrentará a las duras consecuencias de su esporádico suceso en el avión, y luchará por volver a encaminar su vida. Es una película perfecta para disfrutar en compañía de amigos o familia, y una oportunidad para reflexionar sobre el papel de las redes sociales.

Para acabar, para los más pequeños (o no tanto) también tenemos una recomendación. El 27 de octubre se estrena “Trolls 3: Todos juntos”. En esta tercera entrega de la saga “Trolls”, Poppy y Branch se convierten en pareja. Poppy descubre que Branch formaba parte de una banda de música con sus hermanos, y cuando uno de ellos es secuestrado, ambos se embarcan en un emocionante viaje para reunir a la familia y rescatar a Floyd. Esta película, dirigida por Tim Heitz y Walt Dohrn, nos hará embarcarnos en un divertido viaje junto a sus protagonistas, que disfrutaremos junto a los más pequeños de la casa.

Some of the Most Anticipated Releases This October

With the end of summer and the return to routine, we wanted to give you an overview of some of the movie releases this October. We have to take advantage of the good weather and the fact that our bodies still fancy leaving the house and doing different things! Besides, the Cinema Festival has recently taken place, and surely, like us, many of you have already seen almost all the available movies in theaters.

Here's a list for all tastes:

Starting chronologically, on October 6th, "The Exorcist: Believer" was released. Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the original film, this reboot directed by David Gordon Green is perfect for those who love horror movies. It's a fitting choice considering we're in the month of Halloween. The idea is that it serves as the beginning of a new trilogy, inspired by the success of recent trilogies in the world of horror cinema. The main plot? We all know it: a 12-year-old girl possessed by a demonic entity, forcing her mother to seek help from a priest to try to save her.

Next on our list is the Spanish film "O Corno" which will be released on October 11th in theaters. Shot in Galician, this film by filmmaker Jaoine Combarda won the Golden Shell at the San Sebastián Film Festival. Set in 1970s Galicia, María is a midwife known in the village who, after an unexpected event, must leave her home and cross the border into Portugal in search of her freedom and survival. It's a touching story about motherhood and solidarity among women that will leave no one indifferent.

Continuing with another Spanish release, on October 11th, "Me he hecho viral" is also coming out, the new film starring Blanca Suárez and Nicolás Fortudo, directed by Jorge Coira. The protagonist, Mabel, goes viral during a flight, which turns her life upside down. The character played by Blanca Suárez will face the harsh consequences of her sporadic moment on the plane and will struggle to get her life back on track. It's a perfect movie to enjoy with friends or family and an opportunity to reflect on the role of social media.

Finally, for the little ones (or not so little), we also have a recommendation. On October 27th, "Trolls 3: All Together" will be released. In this third installment of the "Trolls" saga, Poppy and Branch become a couple. Poppy discovers that Branch was part of a music band with his brothers, and when one of them is kidnapped, they embark on an exciting journey to reunite the family and rescue Floyd. This movie, directed by Tim Heitz and Walt Dohrn, will take us on a fun adventure with its characters, which we will enjoy alongside the youngest members of the family.

Jaoine Combarda, la primera española en ganar la Concha de Oro en el festival de cine de San Sebastián

Como cada año, se ha llevado a cabo en nuestro país el Festival de cine de San Sebastián, que este año celebraba su 71º edición.  Del 22 al 30 de septiembre la ciudad vasca ha acogido a algunas de las personalidades más importantes del mundo de las artes.

En esta edición, por primera vez en su historia, ha obtenido la Concha de Oro (el premio a mejor película) una cineasta española: la gallega Jaoine Combada. Ha sido por su película “O Corno”, una coproducción de España junto a Portugal y Bélgica. Este film, el primero rodado en gallego que compite en la Sección Oficial del certamen, y ambientado en la Galicia de 1971, narra la dura situación de María (debut de la actriz Janet Novás en la gran pantalla) que se ve obligada a huir de su hogar.  Por ello, decide cruzar la frontera portuguesa a través de rutas de contrabando. Es una historia que habla sobre la búsqueda de la libertad, la supervivencia, y la maternidad, protagonizado por mujeres, que se ayudan entre ellas y se dan esperanza.

En los últimos años estamos por fin viviendo el auge de las cineastas españolas, que están tomando fuerza en el sector y obteniendo un gran reconocimiento. De entre las 5 películas españolas candidatas del festival, 3 han sido dirigidas por mujeres; “Un Amor” de Isabel Coixet , “El sueño de la sultana” de Isabel Higuera, y nuestra ganadora Jaoine Combarda con “O Corno”. Pero no solo en nuestro país el papel y la presencia de las cineastas está creciendo, pues en los últimos años la Concha de Oro ha recaído sobre mujeres directoras:  la georgiana Dea Kulumbegashvili por "Beginning" , la rumana Alina Grigire por "Crai Nou" y la colombiana Laura Mora por "Los reyes del mundo".

Este es el segundo largometraje que dirige y escribe Jaoine, tras “Arima”, que también fue reconocida con numerosos premios, volviendo a compartir con el público una historia protagonizada por mujeres.

Entre el resto de los premios del festival encontramos más figuras femeninas, siendo el Premio Especial del Jurado a “Kalak” de Isabella Eklöf, y la Concha de Plata a mejor dirección ha sido para “Un viaje en primavera” de las taiwanesas Peng Tzu-Hui y Wang Ping-Wen.

Durante el festival, Combarda declaró que espera que los triunfos de mujeres directoras se normalicen y pronto dejen de ser noticia, para que el tema principal pase a ser aquel que concierne: “el cine”. Al igual que ella, nosotros esperamos que este camino se siga construyendo, y es que aun queda mucho por hacer. Por eso es importante seguir apoyando y dando visibilidad a estos acontecimientos, para que un día no tengan que ser noticia.

Jaoine Combarda, the first Spanish woman to win the Golden Shell at the San Sebastian Film Festival

As every year, the San Sebastian Film Festival has taken place in our country, celebrating its 71st edition this year. From September 22 to 30, the Basque city has hosted some of the most important figures in the world of the arts.

In this edition, for the first time in its history, a Spanish filmmaker has won the Golden Shell (the award for best film): Galician director Jaoine Combarda. She received this recognition for her film "O Corno," a co-production between Spain, Portugal, and Belgium. This film, the first one shot in Galician to compete in the Official Section of the festival and set in 1971 Galicia, tells the tough story of María (played by actress Janet Novás in her big-screen debut), who is forced to flee her home. She decides to cross the Portuguese border through smuggling routes. It's a story about the pursuit of freedom, survival, and motherhood, featuring women who support each other and find hope.

In recent years, we have seen the rise of Spanish female filmmakers who are gaining strength in the industry and receiving significant recognition. Among the five Spanish films competing in the festival, three were directed by women: "Un Amor" by Isabel Coixet, "El sueño de la sultana" by Isabel Higuera, and our winner, Jaoine Combarda, with "O Corno." But it's not just in our country; the role and presence of female directors have been growing. In recent years, the Golden Shell has been awarded to women directors: Georgian Dea Kulumbegashvili for "Beginning", Romanian Alina Grigire for "Crai Nou," and Colombian Laura Mora for "Los reyes del mundo".

This is Jaoine's second feature film as a director and writer, following "Arima" which also received numerous awards, once again sharing a story centered around women with the audience.

Among the other festival awards, we find more female figures, with the Special Jury Prize going to "Kalak" by Isabella Eklöf, and the Silver Shell for Best Director awarded to "Un viaje en primavera" directed by Taiwanese filmmakers Peng Tzu-Hui and Wang Ping-Wen.

During the festival, Combarda stated that she hopes the triumphs of female directors become normalized and cease to be news so that the main focus can be on "cinema" itself. Like her, we hope that this path continues to be built because there is still much work to be done. That's why it's important to continue supporting and giving visibility to these events so that one day they won't be news anymore.
