“Snapchat is the future of communication”, Bolli

After losing a match, Piqué divulges a video in Periscope focusing emotions to his person instead of the defeat of his team
Last month the Faculty of Social and Communication Sciences of UPV Leioa in the Basque Country (Spain) received Bolli Rodríguez (@BolliStuff). Expert in Marketing and New Media, she showed her opinion about journalism and current communication, putting the focus on the aspects that directly affect society, such as school bullying or cultural appropriation, and encouraging novice journalists to empathize and to control  their own contents.

Rodríguez firmly affirmed that Snapchat is the future of communication. Even though her professional career has developed in YouTube with her channel ‘Todo El Monte Es Orgasmo’, she accused it of rewarding misogynistic contents, without denying the existence of admirable communicators who fight to increase the recognition of this app. The ‘snapchatter’ paid tribute to the work of the new youtubers generations who promote minorities such as gender fluid people who, as herself, don’t consider themselves neither a woman nor a man.

“We have an unnecessary diogenes of content”, reason why she described as efficient the fugacity of the Snapchat publications (24h). Having explained how this situation helps to create contents which mark in order to get disappeared the classisms that measure the quality by the visits and followers number, she insisted on the human need of getting freedom, ‘judge me by my content, not by the number”.

One of her next projects is reporting bullying by means of Snapchat. The reason she presented was the before mentioned expiry, a fact that supports the injured one in order to avoid an immediate harmful consequence, before solving the problem.

With the force of a tornado in Oklahoma, Bolli warned the public, “don’t let anybody tell you not to change!”, supporting the idea that changing is positive, “it makes us humans”. A humanity that carries us to the creation of contents which empathize and cause emotions. The F.C. Barcelona football player Gerard Piqué is a clear example. After losing a match,  he divulges a video in Periscope focusing the media attention and directing emotions to his person, instead of the defeat of his team.

To obtain a total empathy, explained the ex-youtuber, the most appropriate thing is to cover a local problem and transform it in general one. For a better understanding, Bolli used the cultural appropriation as an exemplification. “I´m a black person from Ecuador and as I have curly hair my mother used to braid it so it didn’t get ruined”, she related, giving voice to a woman who reacted to a video where Bolli showed off her famous braids. When her follower went to the school she suffered abuses because they were “black´s braids”. The commentary ended with a reflection that caused her empathy, “it hurts so much seeing how braids, which have always been marginal, nowadays, just because Kim Kardashian has them, are suddenly cool”.

“The 50% of the invention of abstract expressionism is attributable to my person”, Albert Oehlen

The artist launches a matter which continues present inside him, ¿in which point the tree stops being a tree and turns into an abstraction?

Expressionist painter Albert Oehlen´s work is exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao until the 15th of February. ‘Detrás de la imagen’ (‘Behind the Image’) is a combination of paintings including self-portraits, abstract and computer paintings and serigraphs whose main focus is the idea of the tree. In a conference that he gave in the museum due to its 19º anniversary, he explained the hidden details of the exhibition showing firmness about his aims, “I create because I propose myself a task and to get something new”.

Oehlen is one of the more controversial artists of the postwar in Germany. He is influenced by Joseph Beuys or “the crackpot of the hat” and became part of Lord Jim Lodge, with Matin Kippenberger or “the showman of the group”. “I´m not history, I’m part of it”, said a young Oehlen immersed in the 60s, a period where “painting felt hurt”. They were a conspiracy, i.e., “a novice painters group who created modern pictures without social implication”, remembered the contemporary creator.

Oehlen defended his opinion of not attributing a meaning to his exhibition, inciting the public to look for themselves behind the images and to give more value to the whys and hows, “I simply see what has been accomplished and I look for what is lacking”. Without hesitation and with total conviction he affirmed that 50% of the abstract expressionism is attributable to his professional career.

His immersion in the abstraction began in 1988 when he decided to settle in Andalucía with another member of the ‘enfants terribles’ generation, Kippenberger. “It was a period when all my oil paintings were ugly”, admitted the owner of a study in Bermeo. After days and nights of coexistence and combined reflection, they came to the conclusion that their only desire was getting a change, but differently from his friend and professor of the University of Kassel, being loyal to the painting.

In 1992 he started a challenge, i.e., going in depth of the movements carried out by the hand with the mouse. ‘Computer Paintings’ had not supposed the abandonment of painting as the principal technique. Oehlen created drawings in black and white with the mouse of the first computers taking advantage of the pixelatings because of the low quality. Then he elaborated serigraphs and painted them on the canvas.

The last part of the exhibition focuses on ‘Trees’. Created on polyethylene sheets, the artist launches a matter which is still present inside him, “in which point the tree stops being a tree and turns into an abstraction?”. This series presents images with black arboreal structures on bases where magenta predominates.

Entre dichas adaptaciones destacan ‘Shakespeare in Love’ y ‘Campanas a medianoche’.

Four centuries without William Shakespeare

He reaches that the readers show identification with the characters, through the unjustified instability of the jealousy, the temptation of the power, or the impossibility of actuation faced with the moral dilemma of revenge or forgiveness

The 23th of April, 1616 (3th of May according to the Gregorian calendar), the British dramatist and poet William Shakespeare died in his birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon, England, with 52 years old. Four centuries after his death, he is one of the mains icons of the universal literature, and the most prominent and significant writers of the English literature too. “No other writer has never had so many stylistic advices as Shakespeare”, affirms Harold Bloom, an American critic, “his universality will defeat you, his works know more than you”.

With an intense vocation for acting, when he was living in London, he led the list of actors in the work of Ben Jonson ‘Every Man in his Humour’ (1598). He received a hard critic of Robert Greene who described him as “an upstart Crow, beautified with our feathers, that with his Tiger´s heart wrapped in a Player´s hide, supposes he is as well able to bombast out a blank verse as the best of you: and being an absolute Johannes factotum, is in his own conceit the only Shake-scene in a country”.

Those opinions weren´t enough because the apogee of his professional career confirmed when he became in the co-owner of the theatre company Lord Chamberlian’s Men, later known as King´s Men, when the recently proclaimed king, Jacob I, took it under his protection. The company had in ownership two theatres, The Globe and Blackfiars.

Although the debate about the authorship of his work has been very present in the culture field, many works with an exceptional quality are attributed to Shakespeare, through which he developed his ingenuity and his imaginative wit in several areas of the literature. His poems ‘Venus and Adonis’, ‘The Rape of Lucrece’ or ‘Sonnets’ situated himself inside the list of the greatest in the English poetry. His repertoire is made up of fourteen comedies, ten tragedies and ten historical dramas. One of them is ‘A Midsummer Night´s Dream’, work in which you can differentiate the characters according to his way of talk.

But it wasn´t until 1600 when the author marked his career with the publication of the ‘problem pays’ (‘All’s Well That Ends Well’, ‘Measure for Measure’) and big tragedies like ‘Hamlet’, ‘Othello’ or ‘The Tragedy of Macbeth’. Shakespeare reaches that the readers show identification with the characters, through feelings like the unjustified instability of the jealousy, the temptation of the power, or the impossibility of actuation faced with the moral dilemma of revenge or forgiveness. The last period of his life was determined by the tragicomedies (‘Pericles, Prince of Tyre’ and ‘The Tempest).

Due to his influence he had become in the classic author most adapted to the cinema, in many fields, including parodies and cartoons. In fact the animated film of Disney ‘The Lion King’ is based in the tragedy of the Danish prince. The film adaptations that stand out are ‘Shakespeare in Love’ and ‘Chimes at Midnight’. Of a total of 250 movies based in his texts the most famous are ‘Hamlet’, ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and ‘Macbeth’.

Will we become in posthumans? and much more in ‘Cuando ya no esté. El mundo dentro de 25 años’

The system of diseases prevention will be very developed, “people will be in a biological age of 20 and 30 years indefinitely”, confess Cordeiro in the face of a stunned Gabilondo

Iñaki Gabilondo begins the extension of his life with an innovative programme, ‘Cuando ya no esté. El mundo dentro de 25 años’. With years of experience in his back, the veteran journalist continues surprising with a different and clarifying format. In the programme, this broadcast from the 16th of March in the 0+ channel, the Spanish interviews with the brightest minds like the Spanish physicist Juan Ignacio Cirac or the Singularity University founder, José Luis Cordeiro. They are people who create and live the change in first person.

Will we be immortals in 2045? We will destroy the Earth? Will we become in posthumans? Will we colonise the space or the oceans? Those are questions of public interests that despite not having so much prominence in our daily life, everybody shared them. The presenter confess that he wants to “look how is changing everything, approaching to the robotic, the physic, the genetic, the sociology, the politic, the medicine, to the extraordinary social transformations that are happening”, getting into a world populated of 9.000 million people. Approaching to who are working in the boundary, talking about what will happen or what they mistakenly believe will take place in the future. “No generations like this had felt so vividly the speed that change everything”, announces Gabilondo.

Of this show, in aerial from the 16th of March, is going to broadcast three or four programmes in each trimester, lacking regularity, according to information spread by the director of the 0+ channel, of Movistar, Fernando Jerez.

Juan Ignacio Cirac, director of the Theoretical Division of Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics, offered us his objective vision of the quantum revolution in which we are immersed. The isolation of an atom and it peculiar way of transport is a reality. In the microscopic world, and only in a situation of isolation, the life of an atom is split in several universes being able to make many things at the same time. A few decades ago the information technology threw of balance the communication world but, which is the next step? The Spanish physicist doesn´t have any doubt, the production of quantum computers. With a colossal usefulness, they will be 100 million of times faster than an ordinary computer, solving problems related to the cryptography, the microscopic performance, or to the design of molecules and materials. Even inside of the communication, the information may be transferred from one place to another, without going through the middle, announcing the final of the hackers.

But, what will happen in 20 years? Cirac explains how in the field of physics will be able to have quantum simulators, crucial for the creation of new technologies and of pharmaceutical products. But the most revolutionary isn´t visible, we will see two or three unknown and little predictable.

In the second instalment the interviewed was José Luis Cordeiro funder of the Singularity University. “We will be able to see the death of the death”, affirms the Venezuelan, who believes in the possibility of treat the ageing through the rejuvenation of the cells. For it Google had created Calico, a company in which it has invested 1,500 millions of dollars. In the next years the system of diseases prevention will be very developed, “people will be in a biological age of 20 and 30 years indefinitely”, reaffirmed Cordeiro. They will get this prevention doing a sequence of the human genome with the help of a chip, which will be in markets within 10 years, and for 10€ you may know the illness you are going to have in a medium-near future.

“Google wants to be the quarter part of your brain”, said José Luis Cordeiro in the face of an increasingly stunned Gabilondo. The creation of an exocortex to which we will be connected, it will allow your brain to accumulate your memory improving the quality, the quantity and the speed of storage and exchange of information. There will be an evolutionary leap comparable with the appearance of the language, and according to a robotics expert, in a few years the telepathy will be a reality. In fact “there are encephalograms that receive impulses from the brain and it leave them to a computer”, although their aim it make the transmission from one brain to another.
