Ehrlich de ‘Time Out’ la ha catalogado como “una de las películas de terror más
perturbadoras de los últimos tiempos”
‘La Bruja’
es una de las películas de terror más aguardada de 2016. El drama psicológico
se desarrolla en la nueva Inglaterra de 1630, donde un mal sobrenatural acecha
a una familia de colonos cristiana. Su estreno en España está programado para
el 13 de mayo.
El largometraje está
ambientado en Estado Unidos en el siglo XVII en plena época colonial. Tras su
excomulgación, un granjero británico se ve obligado a huir junto a su esposa y a
sus cinco hijos a un siniestro bosque donde se rumorea que habita una bruja.
Pronto comenzaran a experimentar fenómenos insospechados, la tierra deja de ser
fértil, los animales empiezan a atacarse unos a otros y uno de sus hijos podría
estar sufriendo una posesión demoniaca mientras que otro, recién nacido deja de
dar señales de vida. Ante semejante incertidumbre y desasosiego la familia
acusa a su hija de brujería, que defiende su inocencia sin ocultar sus
reproches. Las pruebas hacia la familia ya han comenzado, pero tendrán que
tener mucha precaución con sus decisiones, las consecuencias podrían ser
terribles.
Los acontecimientos que
relata Robert Eggers ocurren unos años antes del hecho histórico del que bebe
la cinta, uno de los sucesos más escalofriantes acontecidos en Estados Unidos,
los juicios
de Salem. En 1962, en un pueblo de Massachusetts, 19 personas
fueron acusadas, juzgadas y condenadas a muerte por brujería. Entre ellas se
encontraban varias chicas de una rama estricta del protestantismo, la comunidad
puritana, que comenzaron a sufrir convulsiones.
El debut de Eggers,
premiado a la mejor dirección en el Festival de Sundance, se estrenará en España el 13 de mayo. El reparto está
formado por Anya Taylor-Joy (Morgan), Ralph Ineson (El libro de la selva y
Harry Potter), Kate Dickie (Juego de tronos y Prometheus), Harvey Scrimshaw
(Orange and Sunshine), Lucas Dawson (SuperNews!), Ellie Grainger (The Village),
Julian Richings (Km 666: Desvío al infierno), Bathsheba Garnett (Adoration),
Sarah Stephens (A World Inside my Own) y Jeff Smith (Lejos de Boneville).
Los críticos no han
menospreciado el trabajo realizado, “Eggers eleva a ‘The Witch’ muy por encima
del género de horror. No necesita trucos baratos: sólo dirigir nuestra mirada
al interior”, declaró Peter Travers para la publicación ‘Rolling
Stone’, advirtiendo a los espectadores de cuanto
aterrorizará este proyecto. Por otro lado David Ehrlich de ‘Time Out’
catalogó a ‘La Bruja’ como “una de las películas de terror más perturbadoras de
los últimos tiempos”. ¿Qué habrán hecho para que una película rodada con tres

drama most expected will premier the 13th of May
David Ehrlich of ‘Time
Out’ catalogued ‘The Witch’ as “one of the most genuinely unnerving horror
films in recent memory”
‘The Witch’ is one of the most awaited terror films of 2016. The
psychological drama occurs in the New England of 1630, where a supernatural
evil stalks to a colonist Christian family.
Its premiere in Spain is scheduled for the 13th of May.
The movie is set in the United States in the 17th
century in the middle of the colonial period. After his excommunication a
British farmer is forced to run away with his wife and his five children to a
sinister forest where a rumor is, there lives a witch. Immediately
they are going to experience unexpected phenomena, the land is no fertile
anymore, animals start to attack each other and one of his children might be
suffering a demonic possession, while the newborn stops showing signs of
life. This are the reasons that has the
family for accuse to their daughter of witchcraft, who defends her innocence
without hiding her reproaches. The tests to the family have already started,
but they have to have so much precaution with their decisions, the consequences
could be terrible.
The events that Robert Eggers relates happen some
years before an historical fact of the one that drinks the full-length film,
one of the most horrifying episodes that took place in the United States, the Salem witch trials. In 1962, in a town in Massachusetts, 19 persons were
accused, judged and sentenced to death for witchcraft. Because there were
several girls belonged to a strict branch of Protestantism, the Puritans, who
began to suffer convulsions.
The debut of Eggers, awarded to the best direction in
the Sundance film festival, will be released in Spain the 13th of
May. The cast is formed by Anya Taylor-Joy (Morgan), Ralph Ineson (The Jungle
Book and Harry Potter), Kate Dickie (Game of Thrones and Prometheus), Harvey
Scrimshaw (Orange and Sunshine), Lucas Dawson (SuperNews!), Ellie Grainger (The
Village), Julian Richings (Saw IV), Bathsheba Garnett (Adoration), Sarah Stephens
(A World Inside my Own) and Jeff Smith (Out from Boneville).
The critics haven´t underestimated this work, “Eggers raises The Witch far above the horror herd. He
doesn't need cheap tricks. Eggers merely directs us to look inside”, said Peter
Travers for the ‘Rolling Stones’ magazine, warning readers of how much
terrifying is this project. On the other hand David Ehrlich of ‘Time Out’ catalogued ‘The Witch’ as “one of the most
genuinely unnerving horror films in recent memory”.
