El primer
nombre escogido por el director fue ‘Silencio’, decisión que fue desestimada.
‘Julieta’, la nueva película del manchego Pedro Almodóvar, se
estrenará el 8 de abril. El drama narra las contrariedades y los obstáculos que
experimenta una mujer durante tres décadas (1985-2015) a causa del abandono de
las personas que acompañaban sus días.
La 20ª película
de Almodóvar habla de esa incógnita indescifrable que nos hace alejarnos de las
personas que más amamos, eliminándolas de nuestras vidas como si nunca hubieran
formado parte de ellas, como si nunca hubiesen conquistado nuestro corazón. La
inevitabilidad del destino y la carga del sentimiento de culpa forman parte de
la existencia de la protagonista. “Sólo un milagro puede salvarla”, reza la
sinopsis.
“Es un regreso al cine de mujeres, de grandes
protagonistas femeninas, y un drama que pega muy duro” relata el director más oscarizado
de nuestro país. Protagonizado por Emma Suárez (El Perro del Hortelano, La
Mosquitera, Héroes) y Adriana Ugarte (Lo Contrario al Amor, Combustión, Palmeras en la
Nieve), que encarnan al mismo personaje, Julieta.
El elenco se completa con las actuaciones de Imna
Cuesta, la amiga fiel, Michelle Jenner, la amiga de la infancia y editora de
complementos de una revista de moda, Susi Sánchez, madre y abuela ausente y omnipresente, Rossy de Palma, la sirvienta huraña y
competitiva, Dario Grandinetti, el amante adulto, Nathalie Poza, que representa
la superioridad moral, y Pilar Castro, improvisada compañera de viaje. Cabe
destacar la presencia de Daniel Grao, uno de los hombres de Julieta, personajes
decisivo y trascendental en la historia de la protagonista. Y por último la
muchacha Blanca Parés, hija de Julieta. La mayor parte del abandono, la
ausencia y la desolación se refieren a ella, personaje clave, pero a su vez
desconocida para su madre.
El primer nombre escogido por el director y guionista
del largometraje fue ‘Silencio’, decisión que fue desestimada y anunciada en la
web El Deseo, su productora. Almodóvar explicó la modificación del título alegando que
considera que habría demasiados silencios en la misma época y prefiere eludir
equívocos futuros. “Cuando empezamos la preproducción me enteré que Martin
Scorsese iba a rodar una película con el mismo título”, confiesa el manchego
reconociendo que en un primer momento no le dio importancia, ya que el título
en español suena diferente que ´Silence`, en inglés. Pero fue al finalizar el
rodaje de ambas producciones, al confirmarse que coincidirán en los cines en el
mismo periodo. Además Shûsaku
Endô publicará de nuevo ´Silencio`, la novela en la que está basada el
largometraje. Novela ambientada en el Japón feudal del siglo XVII, que cuenta
las andanzas de unos misioneros jesuitas.
La producción de ´Julieta` comenzó el mes
de mayo del pasado año, al igual que el rodaje, cuyo desarrollo tuvo como punto
de inicio el 6 de mayo de 2015. Este último se ha llevado a cabo en puntos muy
distantes de la geografía española como el Pirineo Aragonés, la Sierra de
Huelva, la Campiña de Sevilla, las Rías Altas y Madrid. Alberto Iglesias ha
sido el elegido para crear la banda sonora y Jean-Claude Larrieu se encargó de
la fotografía.
‘Julieta’ ya es la novena película de
Pedro Almodóvar que se va a encargar de su distribución por Estados Unidos Sony Pictures Classics, información que
salió a la luz en junio de 2015.

The drama tells the setbacks and the obstacles experienced by a woman over the
course of three decades (1985-2015). The main cause was her beloveds neglect.
Almodóvar´s
20th film speaks about this indecipherable mystery that makes us
turn away from the ones we most love, eliminating them from our lives as if
they had never been part of them, as if they had never captivated our hearts.
The inevitability of fate and the load of the guilty feeling are part of her
existence. “Only a miracle can save her” prays the synopsis.
“It´s a
return to the women cinema, of great female characters, and a drama that hits
very hard” tells the Spanish director who has won more Oscars. The movie starts
are Emma Suárez (The
Dog in the Manger, The Mosquito Net, and Heroes), and Adriana Ugarte (Palm
Trees in the Snow), who embody the same character, Julieta.
The
cast is completed with the performances of Inma Cuesta, the faithful friend,
Michelle Jenner, the childhood friend who is a complement editor in a fashion
magazine, Susi Sánchez, absent and omnipresent mother and grandmother, Rossy de
Palma, the rude and competitive housemaid, Dario Grandinetti, the adult lover,
Nathalie Poza, who represents the moral superiority, and Pilar Castro
unexpected travelling companion. It is necessary to emphasize the presence of
Daniel Grao, one of the Julieta´s men, who is decisive in the story. And young
Blanca Parés, she is the Julieta´s daughter. Most of her mother desolation is
because of her, but at the same time unknown to the lead character.
The
first name chosen by the director and the scriptwriter of the movie was ´Silencio`,
decision that was rejected and posted on the web ‘El
Deseo’, his producer. Almodóvar
explained the change in the title saying that he considered that there would be
too many ‘Silencios’ at the same time and he prefer avoid future
misunderstandings. “When we began with preproduction I found out that Martin Scorsese was
going to shoot a film with the same title”, confess the Spanish director,
admitting that at first he didn´t care, because ‘Silencio’ in Spanish sounds
different than ‘Silence’ in English. But when they have finished shooting their
respective films, they knew they will coincide in theaters next year around the
same period. Furthermore Shûsaku Endô will rerelease the novel that film
is based on. Novel set on the feudal Japan of the XVII century, which tells the
Jesuit missionaries adventures.
The production began
in May of last year, like the shooting, whose development started on December 6th
May, 2015. The film was recorded in several places of the Spanish geography as
the Pyrenees (near Aragón), Huelva, Sevilla or Madrid. Alberto Iglesias has
been chosen to create the sound track and Jean-Claude Larrieu was in charge of
photography.
´Julieta`is the ninth
Pedro Almodóvar film whose distribution in EEUU is carried out by Sony
Pictures Classics. This information came to light on June 2015.
