FREDERICK KIESLER_100% CINEMA

Esta semana me gustaría aconsejar una interesante exposición que se encuentra en La Casa Encendida, de la Fundación Especial Caja Madrid, hasta enero de 2014, y donde es posible contemplar algunas de las obras escénicas más importantes del siglo XX llevada a cabo por parte de uno de los grandes artistas de la época Frederick Kiesler.

La muestra se llama “Frederick Kiesler. El escenario explota” y está realizada en coproducción con el Museo Austríaco de Teatro y la casa museo Villa Stuck de Múnich. El tema principal es la experiencia teatral de este gran artista que se presenta a través de los principales planos, maquetas y dibujos de sus proyectos para adentrarse en su particular y utópico universo. Sus obras abarcan desde la arquitectura a la escultura, la pintura y el diseño; fue una persona muy creativa e innovadora que se convirtió pronto en un importante precursor de los diseños escenográficos. De hecho, desde un punto de vista arquitectónico, teatros y cines deben muchos a este proyectista y precursor de las nuevas formas y conceptos de espacios. Tiene el mérito de haber introducido el concepto de “teatro sinfín”, un espacio cerrado donde su interior viene modificado para que el público interactúe más con el escenario a través de vanguardistas estructuras escénicas y sistemas de iluminación. Además diseñó el pabellón austríaco para la Exposición Internacional de Artes Decorativas e Industriales Modernas del 1925, “City in Space” en París, el Film Guild Cinema y el Universal Theater en Nueva York, y su maqueta de la “Casa Sinfín” fue expuesta a lo largo de varios años en el MoMA.

Dentro de esta interesante exposición, todos los martes de octubre y noviembre, se presenta, siempre en La Casa Encendida, un ciclo de cine que se titula “100% Cinema” y que ofrece la visión de las polifacéticas actividades cinematográficas de Kiesler sea como programador y escritor sea como arquitecto y actor. Por ejemplo en “Miñhocão”, de Raphaël Grisey, y en “Reconversão” de Thom Andersen se muestran el pensamiento utópico del importante arquitecto hacía este arte y sus propósitos de ser el medio para mejorar la vida del hombre. En otras películas como “Adebar y Arnulf Rainer” de Peter Kubelka, y “Passage Through: A Ritual” de Stan Brakhage se muestran sus teorías sobre el cine métrico, considerándolo como una proyección de imágenes fijas hasta llegar al concepto que "el cine ideal es la casa del silencio", según cuanto afirmaba él mismo.

Así que hay muchas oportunidades para disfrutar de este genio de la arquitectura que ha contribuido notablemente a la mejoría tanto del sonido como del espacio y de la estructura de museos, teatros y cines entre los más importantes que hay hoy en día. El ciclo finalizará el 26 de noviembre con una performance del cineasta y arquitecto Bruce McClure, uno de los artistas que, inspirándose en el trabajo arquitectónico de Kiesler, está innovando el campo de los contraste entre la luz y la sombra, el ruido y el silencio.

KIESLER FREDERICK, 100% CINEMA

This week I would advise an interesting exhibition is in La Casa Encendida, Special Foundation Caja Madrid, until January 2014, and where you can see some of the most important stage works of the twentieth century carried out by one of the great artists of the time Frederick Kiesler.

The show is called "Frederick Kiesler. The stage explodes" and is co-produced with Austrian Theatre Museum and the museum house Villa Stuck in Munich. The main theme is the theatrical experience of this great artist that occurs through the main plans, models and drawings of their projects to delve into their particular and utopian universe. His works range from architecture to sculpture, painting and design, was a very creative and innovative that soon became an important precursor of set designs. In fact, from an architectural point of view, theaters and cinemas are many to this designer and pioneer of new forms and concepts of space. He is credited with having introduced the concept of "theater endless" an enclosed space where the interior is modified to allow the public to interact more with the avant-garde stage through scenic structures and lighting systems. Also designed the Austrian Pavilion for the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in 1925, "City in Space" in Paris, the Film Guild Cinema and Universal Theater in New York, and his model of the "Casa Auger" was exposed to over several years at MoMA.

In this fascinating exhibition, every Tuesday of October and November, is presented, always in La Casa Encendida, a film series entitled "100% Cinema" and offers insight into the multifaceted Kiesler film activities either as developer is an architect and writer and actor. DIEZ PELICULAS LATINOAMERICANAS SE PRESENTAN A LOS OSCARS

En el famoso evento de los Oscar encontramos la categoría a Mejor Película Extranjera, en la que diez películas latinoamericanas, la mayoría con premios, lucharan por conseguir al menos  una candidatura al Oscar a la mejor película extranjera en 2014.

 

Todos sueñan en pasar de ser una de las 76 películas candidatas a ser una de las cinco producciones nominadas a esta categoría. Como lo consiguió Chile en la pasada edición que fue una de las cinco elegidas con “No”.

 

Argentina, que se ha llevado la estatuilla en dos ocasiones, con “La historia oficial” y “El secreto de sus ojos”. Este año se presenta con “Wakolda” de Lucía Puenzo que también estuvo presente en los festivales de Cannes y de San Sebastián. Narra la historia de un médico nazi por el territorio suramericano después de la II Guerra Mundial.

 

México apuesta por “Heli” una producción de Amat Escalente, con el que se llevó el premio a Mejor Director en Cannes. En la película la crudeza de la violencia en ese país. “Gloria” es la candidata que presenta Chile,  un drama de Sebastián Lelio.

Brasil figura se presenta con la ópera prima del director Kléber Mendonça Filho “ Osom ao redor” una película policiaca que ya fue ganadora del premio FIPRESCI en Rotterdam.

“La Playa DC” es la película que Colombia presenta en el certamen, ópera prima de Juan Andrés Aragon. Se exhibió en la sección “ Un certain regard” del Festival de Cine de Canes, cuenta la historia de tres hermanos afrocolombianos que huyen de la capital por la presión económica familiar.

Ecuador apuesta por una producción de Javier Andrade, “Mejor no hablar (de ciertas cosas)” un drama familiar urbano que ya tuvo su premiere mundial en el Festival de Miami 2012.

“El limpiador” de Adrián Saba es por lo que apuesta este año Perú. Una producción independiente que relata la historia de un limpiador que se hace responsable de un niño huérfano después de una extraña epidemia en Lima.

República Dominicana apuesta por una comedia romántica “¿Quién manda?”, de Ronni Castillo. Urugay en cambio, apuesta por una producción de animación, “Anina” de Alfredo Soderguit. Es una coproducción con Colombia, que ha recorrido varios festivales, que más allá de divertir a los niños, hace una reflexión sobre la familia, la educación y la infancia.

Por último, “Brecha en el Silencio” de Luis y Andrés Rodríguez representará a Venezuela. La película cuenta la historia de una joven de familia humilde y con discapacidad auditiva con una relación familiar complicada.

El 15 de enero se darán a conocer cuáles son las cinco producciones nominadas par el certamen de los Oscar, que se celebrará el 2 de marzo de 2014 en los Ángeles, Estados Unidos.

TEN LATIN AMERICAN FILMS ARE PRESENTED TO THE OSCARS.

 

In the famous event of the Oscar we can found the Best Foreign Language Film that ten Latin American films, most with prizes, fight to get at least an Oscar nomination for best foreign language film in 2014.

All countries dream to go from being one of the 76 films candidates for one of five productions nominated in this category. As Chile got in last year, it was one of five chosen with "No".

Argentina, which has taken the statue twice, with "La historia oficial" and "El secreto de sus ojos". This year is presented with "Wakolda"   of Lucia Puenzo, it was also present at festivals in Cannes and San Sebastian. It tells the story of a Nazi doctor on the South American territory after World War II.

Mexico bet on "Heli" a production of Amat Escalente. With it, he won the award for Best Director at Cannes. In the film reflect the intensity of the violence in that country. "Gloria" is the candidate that presents Chile, a Sebastián Lelio drama.

Brazil is presented with the debut of the director Kleber Mendonça Filho "O som ao redor"  a crime film that it was already winner the FIPRESCI Prize at Rotterdam.

"La Playa DC"  is the film that Colombia has in the contest, the debut of Juan Andres Aragon. It was exhibited in the "Un certain regard" the Cannes Film Festival, it tells the story of three brothers Colombians fleeing the capital for family economic pressure.

Ecuador bets on a production of Javier Andrade, "Better not talk (about certain things)" an urban family drama and it had its world premiere at the Festival Miami 2012.

"The Cleaner" by Adrian Saba, it is that Peru bet this year. An independent production that tells the story of a cleaner that is responsible for an orphaned child after a strange epidemic in Lima.

Dominican Republic committed to a romantic comedy "Quién manda?" By Ronni Castillo. Urugay in other way opts for a production of animation, "Anina" of Alfredo Soderguit. NUEVA TEMPORADA TELEVISIVA: SERIES,Y MAS SERIES

Ya hace casi un mes del inicio de la temporada  otoño-invierno de la televisión norteamericana. Muchas son las series que se han estrenado esta temporada y muchas son las que están por estrenar. Si bien el año pasado hubo una enorme cantidad de estrenos entre los que surgieron grandes productos televisivos como Vikings (2012) o Bates Motel (2012), parece que este año el listón va a quedar igual de alto.

 

Son muchas series las que surgen ahora dirigidas a un público más amplio y  especializado, con la intención de convertirse en la nueva Juego de Tronos (2011), Homeland (2011), Once Upon a Time (2011)… Tras el espectacular final que nos deja una de las mejores series de todos los tiempos, Breaking Bad (2008) de Vince Gilligam, millones de espectadores están preparados para encontrar “otro plato” igual de suculento al que hincarle el diente.

 

Muchas series ya han presentado su capítulo piloto al mundo y otras  harán a lo largo de este mes su gran aparición. Entre los estrenos más destacados encontramos Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013), Dracula (2013) o Sleepy Hollow (2013).   

 

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. producida por Josh Whedon, creador de Buffy caza vampiros (1997) y director de Los Vengadores (2012),  fue una de las primeras en hacer su aparición el 24 de septiembre, con casi doce millones de espectadores. Esta serie se centra en el agente Philip Coulson y en los acontecimientos que suceden a los hechos acontecidos en Los Vengadores.
 

Dracula  basada en el famoso libro del escritor irlandés Bram Stocker llego a la pequeña pantalla el 25 de octubre. La serie presenta al conde Dracula en su llegada a Londres con el fin de acabar con la orden del dragón, una vieja e inquisitorial hermandad. En esta adaptación el encargado de dar vida al mitológico personaje es Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Match Point, Los Tudor). Se trata de una serie cargada de lujo, sexo, violencia… pero falta una cosa, Dracula no da miedo.

 Sleepy Hollow es otra de las propuestas más interesantes que podemos encontrar. Esta adaptación del famoso cuento de Washington Irving, producida por FOX, presenta grandes diferencias con la adaptación que realizo Tim Burton. La diferencia principal reside en que la serie está contextualizada en la época actual y no en la Inglaterra victoriana.  Además la serie presenta una carga mucho más diabólica y oscura que la obra de Burton.

Muchas series llegaran a lo largo de esta nueva temporada como Almost Human (J.J. Abrams), Believe (J.J. Abrams y Alfonso Cuarón), Masters of Sex (Showtime), Mixology (ABC) o Penny Dreadful (ésta última llegara en 2014). Otras son las que presentarán una nueva temporada como Sons of Anarchy (2008), Homeland, Once Upon a Time, American Horror Hystory (2011) o Vikings.

En resumidas cuestas, el público tendrá donde elegir entre una amplia gama de series, que juegan a todos los géneros habidos y por haber. La televisión mejora su producto temporada a temporada, en gran parte gracias a la nueva forma de mercado de Vew On Demanda. Ésta nueva forma de distribución de consumo  se implanta a día de hoy en nuestro país. España, que también ha dado un salto cualitativo en calidad televisiva con su recién estrenada El tiempo entre costuras (2013).

NEW TV SEASON : SERIES,  AND MORE SERIES

It´s almost a month of the start of the autumn-winter season of American television. There are many series that have been released this season and there are many that are brand new. The last year there was a huge amount of releases, a large television products emerged as Vikings (2012) or Bates Motel (2012) , it seems that this year the level will be equally loud.

There are many series that arise now aimed at a wider audience and specialized , with the intention of becoming in the new Game of Thrones (2011) , Homeland (2011 ) , Once Upon a Time (2011) ... After a spectacular end we let one of the best series of all time , Breaking Bad (2008) created by Vince Gilligam , millions of viewers are prepared to find " another dish "  to than biting .

Many series have already submitted their pilot episode to the world and others will over this month. Among the most prominent premieres are Agents of SHIELD (2013) , Dracula (2013) and Sleepy Hollow (2013).

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. produced by Josh Whedon , creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997 ) and director of The Avengers (2012 ) , was one of the first to make their appearance on  24 September, with almost twelve million viewers. This series focuses on the agent Philip Coulson and the events those happening after The Avengers.

Dracula based on the famous book by Irish writer Bram Stocker came to the small screen on October 25 . The serie features the Count Dracula on his arrival in London in order to end the Order of the Dragon, an old and inquisitorial brotherhood . In this adaptation the responsible for giving life to the mythological character is Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Match Point, The Tudors ) . It has luxury, sex, violence ... but there is not one thing , Dracula is not scary .

 Sleepy Hollow is one of the most interesting product we can find. This adaptation of the famous story by Washington Irving , produced by FOX , has big differences with Tim Burton adaptation performed . The main difference is that the series is contextualized in the present time and not in Victorian England . In addition, the series features is heavier and darker than Burton´s film .

Many series came along this season as Almost Human (JJ Abrams) , Believe (JJ Abrams and Alfonso Cuarón) , Masters of Sex (Showtime) , Mixology (ABC) or Penny Dreadful  (coming in 2014) . Others are those that present a new season like Sons of Anarchy (2008), Homeland , Once Upon a Time , American Horror Hystory (2011) or Vikings.

The bottom slopes , the public will have to choose from a wide range of series, playing all genres. The TV products improve season by season , largely thanks to the new way of Vew On Demand market . This new form of distribution of consumption is implemented today in our country. Spain, which also has taken a quantum leap in quality television with his newly released The time between seams ( 2013 ) .

Colin Arthur: una criatura de la ciencia ficción

Colin Arthur ha participado en muchas películas, pero no se ha reconocido mucho su esfuerzo. Sólo hay que comprobar lo difícil que es acceder a su biografía, y sin embargo, es responsable del diseño y creación de muchos personajes de “La historia interminable”, como el dragón Fujur o el comepiedras, entre otros. Y en esta película su nombre no aparece en los créditos, su trabajo se le atribuye a otras personas “que no se sabe muy bien qué hicieron”.
 

Esto se ha comentado el pasado lunes 28 de Octubre en el Festival de Cine Fantástico y de Terror “La Mano”. El evento ha sido en el centro de arte de Alcobendas (Madrid), y han acudido Victor Matellano, director y escritor español, acompañado de Colin Arthur, maestro de los efectos especiales y del maquillaje, para la presentación del libro “Colin Arthur. Criaturas, maquillajes y efectos especiales”.


Es un libro biográfico escrito por Victor Matellano, y editado por Ediciones Pigmalion dentro de la colección Lumiere, que trata las experiencias de Colin desde sus inicios en el museo de cera. Ha trabajado en la elaboración de torsos y máscaras para “2001. Odisea en el espacio”, en “El resplandor” elaboró las famosas cascadas de sangre, en “Abre los ojos” o en “Conan” entre otras. Además el libro cuenta con un prólogo de Ray Harryhausen, que fue el último trabajo que publicó antes de su muerte.

Víctor nos ha contado cómo conoció a Colin. Estaba organizando una exposición en la que había que poner algún elemento que, además de escenográfico, fuera llamativo, y Colin le cedió el cocodrilo de “El robobo de la jojoya”, una película de Martes y Trece en la que trabajó.

Desde hace dos años, tras trabajar juntos en el largometraje “wax”, han tenido una relación más estrecha, y decidieron escribir este libro. Tras esto, participaron en la película “La cañada de los ingleses”, para la que Colin fabricó un disfraz de sirena, y ahora se están preparando para su próximo proyecto: “vampyres”.

Fue una conferencia bastante amena. Pudimos disfrutar de otras actividades ese día: el visionado de la película “In the house of flies” y la proyección de cortos. La esposa de Colin, Sarah, también estuvo en el festival, y él fue premiado con “la mano”, el premio del festival. Trajeron incluso una réplica del comepiedras de unas dimensiones similares al original.

Colin Arthur: a Sci-Fi creature

Colin Arthur has worked in many films, but his work isn’t recognized. He designed and made almost all the creatures of the film “The neverending story” like Falkor the Luckdragon, and that’s one of his best hits, but his name doesn’t appear at the movie credits, it’s written that his work in that film were done by other people.

That was told the October 28 in “La mano”, Horror and Sci-Fi Festival in Madrid. In the festival, Víctor Matellano, Spanish writer and director, and Colin Arthur, F/X and make up professional, show us the book: “Colin Arthur. Creatures, make up and special effects”.

It’s a biographic book written by Víctor Matellano and edit by Pigmalion Editions in the Lumiere collection. The book explains the Colin experiences since he works in the waxworks until now, like when he made the monkey’s costume for “2001. A Space Odyssey”, the famous blood waterfalls of “the shining”, etc. And the prologue was written by Ray Harryhausen, it’s his last publication.

In this Sci-Fi conference, Víctor explain us how he met Colin. Victor was organizing an event and he needed a shocking piece, something that impress the visitors. And Colin gives him the crocodile that he made for the film “El robobo de la jojoya”, a Spanish humor film from “Martes y Trece” comedian actors.

After that, they worked together in the film “wax” and they decided to write this book. When this project was finished, they started to work in “La cañada de los ingleses” and Colin made a mermaid costume for this film. Now, their next project is “vampyres”.

The conference was amusing but we could enjoy other activities in the fest. Before the conference we could see the film “In the house of flies”, and after the conference, the festival ends with a short contest. Colin’s wife, Sarah, assisted at the conference, and they were photographed together. Colin received the fest award and the public took photos of Colin with one of his characters.
