Arranca el Festival de Cannes 2023

El pasado martes 16 de mayo arrancaba la 76ª edición de uno de los festivales de cine más importantes, el Festival de Cine de Cannes. Para que no te pierdas nada, nosotros te contamos todo lo que ha ocurrido hasta la fecha. 

El festival arrancaba con una gran alfombra roja llena de estrellas y lujo, pero también mucho escándalo y polémica. A pesar de ser una edición caracterizada por la presencia de numerosas mujeres, datos sorprendentes e incomparables a otras ediciones pues este año se presentan muchas directoras, la elección de la película  de apertura con la que se dio inicio al festival generó gran debate. La seleccionada para encabezar y dar comienzo a la semana del cine fue “Jeanne Du Barry” protagonizada por Jhonny Depp, el cual recibió una gran ovación de 7 minutos por su interpretación. 

Entre otra de las candidatas a abrir el festival se encontraba “Le Retour” de Catherine Corsini. Esta ha generado grandes polémicas debido a ciertas acusaciones de abuso durante la grabación y escenas sexuales muy explícitas. Además, la actriz que las interpretaba era menor de edad en el momento del rodaje. La película fue retirada del proceso de selección pero finalmente la reincorporaron para dar fin a los rumores sobre dichos abusos pues nunca se llegaron a denuncias o instancias formales. 

Pero, a pesar de las polémicas, lo que interesa del festival es el cine, y la gran incertidumbre de quién se llevará este año el famoso galardón La Palma de Oro. En esta edición, el jurado está compuesto por increíbles profesionales de la cinematografía como son Ruben Östlund, ganador de su segunda Palma de Oro por “El triángulo de la tristeza”; la actriz y directora estadounidense Brie Larson; el actor estadounidense Paul Dano; el actor francés Denis Ménochet; el último ganador del Goya a Mejor Actor por “As Bestas”; el director argentino Damián Szifrón; la directora francesa Julia Ducournau, ganadora de la Palma de Oro por “Titane”; la directora marroquí Maryam Touzani; el guionista y director británico-zambiano Rungano Nyoni y el escritor afgano Atiq Rahimi.

Este año, el festival cuenta con una mayor presencia española más allá de Pedro Almodóvar, Erice o Elena Martín con “Creatura” en la Quincena de Realizadores. El Marché du Film ha contado con España como país invitado de honor en esta 76ª edición, lo que da reconocimiento al sector audiovisual de nuestro país que está cosechando grandes éxitos internacionales como “20.000 especies de abejas”, destacada en la Berlinale y el Festival de Málaga, o “As Bestas” gran triunfadora de los Goya 2023. 

A pesar de llevar tan solo un par de días de festival, ya hay producciones y artistas que han causado sensación y han sido ovacionados. Entre ellos, encontramos a Jhonny Depp por su vuelta a los cines y su gran interpretación en “Jeanne du Barry”, y el gran Pedro Almodóvar, quién colapsó el festival con el esperado estreno de “Extraña forma de vida”. Además, los asistentes no solo pudieron disfrutar del estreno del cortometraje, sino también de un encuentro con el director y uno de sus actores principales, Ethan Hawke. Pedro Pascal no pudo asistir al festival debido al rodaje de “Gladiator 2”. 

Todavía queda mucho por ver y disfrutar en esta larga semana llena de cine, producciones, cortos, artistas y mucho audiovisual. Cannes Film Festival 2023 kicks off 

The 76th edition of one of the most important film festivals, the Cannes Film Festival, kicked off last Tuesday, May 16. To make sure you don't miss a thing, we tell you everything that has happened so far. 

The festival kicked off with a big red carpet full of stars and luxury, but also a lot of scandal and controversy. Despite being an edition characterized by the presence of many women, surprising data and incomparable to other editions because this year many female directors are presented, the choice of the opening film with which the festival began generated much debate. The film selected to headline and kick off the film week was "Jeanne Du Barry" starring Johnny Depp, who received a standing ovation of 7 minutes for his performance. 

Among the other candidates to open the festival was "Le Retour" by Catherine Corsini. It has generated great controversy due to certain accusations of abuse during filming and very explicit sexual scenes. In addition, the actress who played them was underage at the time of filming. The film was withdrawn from the selection process but was finally reinstated to put an end to the rumors of such abuse, as it never reached formal complaints or instances. 

But, despite the controversies, what interests the festival is the cinema, and the great uncertainty of who will win this year's famous Palme d'Or award. This year the jury is composed of incredible film professionals such as Ruben Östlund, winner of his second Palme d'Or for "Triangle of Sadness"; American actress and director Brie Larson; American actor Paul Dano; French actor Denis Ménochet; the latest winner of the Goya for Best Actor for "As Bestas"; Argentine director Damián Szifrón; French director Julia Ducournau, winner of the Palme d'Or for "Titane"; Moroccan director Maryam Touzani; British-Zambian screenwriter and director Rungano Nyoni; and Afghan writer Atiq Rahimi. 

This year, the festival has a greater Spanish presence beyond Pedro Almodóvar, Erice or Elena Martín with "Creatura" in the Directors' Fortnight. The Marché du Film has counted with Spain as guest of honor in this 76th edition, which gives recognition to the audiovisual sector of our country that is reaping great international successes such as "20,000 especies de abejas", highlighted at the Berlinale and the Malaga Festival, or "As Bestas" big winner of the Goya 2023.

Despite the fact that the festival has only been running for a couple of days, there are already productions and artists that have caused a sensation and have received standing ovations. Among them, we find Johnny Depp for his return to theaters and his great performance in "Jeanne du Barry", and the great Pedro Almodovar, who crashed the festival with the expected premiere of “Extraña forma de vida". In addition, attendees were not only able to enjoy the premiere of the short film, but also a meeting with the director and one of its main actors, Ethan Hawke. Pedro Pascal was unable to attend the festival due to the filming of "Gladiator 2". 

There is still a lot to see and enjoy in this long week full of cinema, productions, short films, artists and a lot of audiovisuals. El fenómeno Beta Coqueta

Muchos la conoceréis como Beta Coqueta, muchos otros por Elisabet Benavent, y para los que no la conozcáis, os la presento. Elísabet Benavent es una escritora valenciana conocida en redes sociales como Beta Coqueta. Es una escritora de novelas de comedia romántica y autora de varios libros entre los que destaca la saga “En los zapatos de Valeria”. Sumando todas sus novelas, ha conseguido vender más de 3 millones y medio de ejemplares y es reconocida como una de las escritoras más relevantes de la literatura contemporánea.

Es en la saga “En los zapatos de Valeria”, su colección más exitosa, en la que nos vamos a centrar. Hoy en día, y cada vez más, son muchos los libros que se han adaptado no solo a la gran pantalla, sino también a la pequeña y, como no, Elísabet Benavent no se iba a quedar atrás. Netflix, entre otras plataformas de streaming, está apostando por realizar producciones que lleven a las casas una versión audiovisual de los libros más exitosos del momento. Entre estos, las adaptaciones más actuales son la de “La chica de Nieve” de Javier Castillo, que también ha firmado por una segunda temporada para dar vida a la segunda entrega de la trilogía,  y “Valeria”, basada en la colección de la gran escritora. 

"Valeria" se estrenó el 8 de mayo de 2020 en Netflix y se convirtió en uno de los grandes estrenos de la temporada enganchando a gran cantidad de espectadores. Tal fue su éxito, que se decidieron a apostar por una segunda temporada que se ha estado grabando desde septiembre de 2020. Tras una larga espera, ya conocemos cuándo será el estreno de esta esperada segunda entrega: el próximo 2 de junio. Ya no queda nada para poder disfrutar de las nuevas locuras del grupo de amigas y sus líos amorosos. Pero por si no has visto la primera temporada, no te preocupes, te contamos un poco para que te entre el gusanillo y quieras verla.

Valeria es una escritora que no está pasando por su mejor momento a nivel profesional y sentimental. Existe una distancia emocional que la separa de su marido y, eso es lo que la lleva a refugiarse en su grupo de amigas: Carmen, Lola y Nerea. Pero, ellas también se ven envueltas en sus propios problemas, y todos ellos son los que llevan a las cuatro chicas a vivir una vida de locuras, risas, amoríos, llantos y decepciones. ¿Qué pasará en esta segunda temporada con todas ellas? ¿Habrán dado carpetazo a los problemas de la temporada pasada? ¿Se presentarán nuevos retos? Lo que sí tenemos claro es que nos van a tener pegados a la pantalla hasta devorar los episodios. 

Además, por si fuera poco y nos quedamos con ganas, Netflix estrenará el 28 de julio “Un Cuento Perfecto”, la adaptación de otro bestseller de la escritora. En esta ocasión, la miniserie contará la vida de Margot, una chica con una vida llena de facilidades y lujo gracias a su familia, y David, un chico no tan afortunado económicamente. Ambos se conocerán y vivirán una historia que se podría definir como cuento perfecto… o no. Y si aún así, no hemos conseguido captar tu atención, te desvelamos que los protagonistas serán interpretados nada más y nada menos que por Anna Castillo y Álvaro Mel. ¿Qué? ¿Ahora te lo hemos pintado bien no? Pues toca esperar todavía un poco para poder disfrutar de ella. 

Sin duda, Elísabet Benavent se merece el reconocimiento de ser una de las escritoras más relevantes de la literatura contemporánea. Con sus novelas consigue enganchar no solo a jóvenes si no también a adultos a las historias de sus personajes y, tal y como está la actualidad, que cada vez se lee menos, es un gran logro para la escritora valenciana. Nosotros esperamos que adapten muchas más de sus novelas y sugerimos que la siguiente sea “Toda la verdad de mis mentiras” que por cierto, si no lo habéis leído os lo recomendamos.

Beta Coqueta’s phenomenon 

Many of you will know her as Beta Coqueta, many others by Elisabet Benavent, and for those of you who don't know her, I introduce her to you. Elisabet Benavent is a Valencian writer known in social networks as Beta Coqueta. She is a writer of romantic comedy novels and author of several books among which stands out the saga "En los zapatos de Valeria". Adding up all her novels, she has managed to sell more than 3 and a half million copies and is recognized as one of the most relevant writers of contemporary literature. 

We are going to focus on the saga “En los zapatos de Valeria", her most successful collection. Nowadays, and more and more, there are many books that have been adapted not only to the big screen, but also to the small screen and, of course, Elísabet Benavent was not going to be left behind. Netflix, among other streaming platforms, is betting on making productions that bring to homes an audiovisual version of the most successful books of the moment. Among these, the most current adaptations are Javier Castillo's "La chica de Nieve", which has also signed for a second season to bring to life the second installment of the trilogy, and "Valeria", based on the great writer's collection. 

"Valeria" premiered on May 8, 2020 on Netflix and became one of the great premieres of the season hooking a large number of viewers. Such was its success, that they decided to bet on a second season that has been filming since September 2020. After a long wait, we now know when the premiere of this long-awaited second installment will be: next June 2. There is nothing left to enjoy the new follies of the group of friends and their love affairs. But if you haven't seen the first season, don't worry, we'll tell you a little bit about it so you'll get the bug and want to watch it. 

Valeria is a writer who is not going through her best professional and sentimental moment. There is an emotional distance that separates her from her husband and that is what leads her to take refuge in her group of friends: Carmen, Lola and Nerea. But they are also involved in their own problems, and all of them are what lead the four girls to live a life of madness, laughter, love affairs, tears and disappointments. What will happen in this second season with all of them? Will they have put the problems of last season behind them? Will there be new challenges? What we do know for sure is that they will keep us glued to the screen until we devour the episodes. 

In addition, as if that were not enough, Netflix will premiere on July 28 “Un Cuento Perfecto", the adaptation of another bestseller by the writer. This time, the miniseries will tell the life of Margot, a girl with a life full of facilities and luxury thanks to her family, and David, a boy not so fortunate financially. Both will meet and live a story that could be defined as a perfect tale... or not. And if we still haven't managed to capture your attention, we reveal that the main characters will be played by none other than Anna Castillo and Álvaro Mel. What? Now we've painted it well, haven't we? Well, you still have to wait a little while to enjoy it. 

Undoubtedly, Elísabet Benavent deserves the recognition of being one of the most relevant writers of contemporary literature. With her novels she manages to hook not only young people but also adults to the stories of her characters and, as it is nowadays, that people are reading less and less, it is a great achievement for the Valencian writer. We hope they adapt many more of her novels and we suggest that the next one is "Toda la verdad de mis mentiras" which, by the way, if you have not read it, we recommend it.

Vuelve la Fiesta del Cine

Una vez más vuelve la Fiestas del Cine, la exitosa campaña de la Federación de Distribuidores Cinematográficos (FEDICINE), la Federación de Cines de España (FECE) y el Ministerio de Cultura y Deporte con la colaboración de la Asociación Distribuidores Independientes Cinematográficos (ADICINE), la Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas y la revista Fotogramas con el objetivo de fomentar las visitas a las salas de cine en España. 

Este evento se lleva celebrando en nuestro país desde 2009. Desde 2014, dos veces al año, una primera jornada entre mayo y junio y una segunda en octubre, los habitantes españoles pueden disfrutar de todas las películas que se encuentren en el momento en cartelera a un precio muy reducido. En sus inicios, las entradas de cine en estos días costaban tan solo 2,90€. En la actualidad, a pesar de que el precio haya aumentado, sigue siendo una oferta irresistible acudir a las salas de cine a disfrutar de los mejores estrenos por tan solo 3,50 €. 

Este año, la primera celebración de esta fiesta comenzará el próximo 15 de mayo, y podrás disfrutar de las producciones que haya en cartelera por este precio tan reducido hasta el 18 del mismo mes. Pero existen ciertos requisitos y excepciones que no pueden ajustarse a este evento. A continuación, te contamos todo lo que necesitas saber. 

El precio reducido de estos días lo pueden disfrutar todas las personas. Como único requisito, será necesario presentar una acreditación a la hora de comprar tus entradas para que se aplique el descuento. La acreditación se consigue rellenando un formulario rápido y sencillo con tus datos en la página web oficial de la Fiesta del Cine. Después de rellenarlo, tus acreditaciones estarán disponibles para descargar o te llegarán al correo electrónico que facilites. De esta acreditación, se eximen los menores de 14 años y las personas mayores de 60.

 Son ya 15 ediciones, y sin duda serán muchas más, de una fiesta que se originó en Francia y que, además de en España, se celebra también en Italia, Reino Unido, Alemania y Estados Unidos. Esta propuesta para animar a la gente a ir al cine y disfrutar de sus películas favoritas en una experiencia inmersiva única es una gran iniciativa pues, en los últimos años, el precio de las entradas a las salas es cada vez más elevado y la gente prefiere esperar a que las películas se encuentren disponibles en cualquier plataforma de streaming para poder verlas que ir al cine. 

Así que ya sabéis, la semana que viene, de lunes a jueves, podréis disfrutar disfrutar del mejor cine a un precio de escándalo. Llamad a vuestros amigos y no perdáis esta gran oportunidad que seguro que hay alguna película en cartelera que os pica el gusanillo por verla. Cinema´s Party is back

Once again returns the Cinema´s Party, the successful campaign of the Federation of Film Distributors (FEDICINE), the Federation of Cinemas of Spain (FECE) and the Ministry of Culture and Sport with the collaboration of the Association of Independent Film Distributors (ADICINE), the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and Fotogramas magazine with the aim of encouraging visits to movie theaters in Spain. 

This event has been held in our country since 2009. Since 2014, twice a year, a first day between May and June and a second one in October, Spanish inhabitants can enjoy all the films that are currently on the billboard at a very reduced price. In the beginning, movie tickets on these days cost only 2.90€. Today, although the price has increased, it is still an irresistible offer to go to the cinema to enjoy the best premieres for only 3.50 €. 

This year, the first celebration of this festival will begin on May 15, and you can enjoy the productions that are on the billboard for this reduced price until the 18th of the same month. But there are certain requirements and exceptions that cannot be adjusted to this event. Below, we tell you everything you need to know. 

The reduced price of these days can be enjoyed by everyone. The only requirement is that you will need to present an accreditation when you buy your tickets for the discount to be applied. Los estrenos que llenarán las salas de cine este mes de mayo

Como con cada comienzo de mes, nos gusta hacer un resumen de los mejores estrenos de este. Mayo viene cargado con infinidad de estrenos que, sin duda, nos dejarán pegados a las butacas del cine, y nosotros te contamos cuáles son los más esperados. 

En la primera semana del mes contamos con un total de 11 estrenos de todo tipo de géneros. Entre ellos, destacan títulos como “Asedio” dirigida por Miguel Ángel Vivas o “Las buenas compañías” de Silvia Munt. “Asedio” muestra la vida de Dani, un agente antidisturbios que se encuentra a escasas semanas de ser desahuciado. Pero la suerte parece de estar de su lado (o no) cuando en pleno desalojo, una gran cantidad de dinero llega a parar a las manos de Dani. Dicho dinero pertenece a la mafia del realojo, que explota inmigrantes sin recursos. Dani descubre que son sus propios compañeros de trabajo quienes han organizado todo la operación para repartirse el botín. 

“Las buenas compañías”, por otro lado, muestra la vida de Bea, una joven de 16 años en el verano de 1976. La protagonista se ve inmersa en los movimientos de cambios que se están comenzando a dar en el país. Pero no solo ocurren cambios fuera, algo dentro de Bea está empezando a cambiar, sobretodo a raíz de entablar una gran amistad con Miren, una chica de buen estatus social. La situación se vuelve más tensa cuando los intereses personales y políticos se interponen en medio de esta amistad. 

La segunda semana también viene cargada de estrenos, un total de 15 ni más ni menos. Entre todos estos títulos se podrían destacar “Love Again” dirigida por Jim Strouse que cuenta la historia de una mujer que acaba de perder trágicamente al amor de su vida y su futuro prometido. Sin llegar a superar su perdida, empieza a enviar mensajes de texto al antiguo número de teléfono de su pareja difunta. Para su sorpresa, el número ha sido reasignado a otro hombre que vive en la otra punta de la ciudad y que, como ella, también ha sufrido un desamor similar. Ambos deciden conocerse e inmediatamente sienten una conexión innegable. Pero no son capaces de olvidar el pasado. No al menos, hasta que la música de Celine Dion entra en escena y ayuda a romper esa barrera que los separa.

Pero tranquilo, si eres más fan del terror que del drama, no te preocupes, también hay estrenos para ti. Esta semana también llega a la gran pantalla “Slasher” de Alberto Armas Díaz. Esta cuenta la historia de Julio, un joven al que su madre le regala por su 18 cumpleaños una máscara como la que utilizaba su padre para cometer asesinatos. Julio se verá envuelto en una encrucijada en la que deberá elegir entre seguir con el legado psicópata de su familia o abrazar el amor por Úrsula, una chica que acaba de llegar al pueblo.  

La tercera semana se presenta con 13 estrenos más. De entre ellos, destacan “Los Caballeros del Zodíaco” de Tomasz Baginski. Una película de acción real basada en la saga anime “Los Caballeros del Zodíaco”. Cuando el joven y testarudo Seiya descubre que tiene poderes místicos, se adentrará en un nuevo mundo de Caballeros Santos en guerra. Entonces, recibirá un entrenamiento mágico para proteger a una diosa reencarnada. Su supervivencia dependerá de sacrificarlo todo y entrar a formar parte del lugar que le corresponde entre los Caballeros del Zodíaco.

Esta semana también contará con el esperado estreno de “Fast & Furious X” dirigida por Zach Braff. La última entrega de esta famosísima saga de películas llegará el 19 de mayo. En ella podremos ver a Dom Toretto y su familia, quienes no pueden llevar una vida tranquila como desean y se ven obligados a formar un equipo para sobrevivir. Ahora, se han convertido en el principal objetivo del hijo del narcotraficante Hernán Reyes, quién clama venganza. En esta última entrega podremos disfrutar una última vez de la mayor adrenalina, velocidad y acción de la mano de su gran protagonista: Vin Diesel. 

Para finalizar el mes, la última semana no es menos que las otras y contará con un total de 8 estrenos, entre los que destacan “La Sirenita”, el live action, dirigido por Bob Marshall, que tanta polémica ha generado desde su primer anuncio. La película mostrará las aventuras de la princesa Ariel y sus amigos marinos con un gran reparto de estupendos actores como Halle Bailey o Melissa McCarthy. Sin duda es Disney le está cogiendo el gustillo a los live action. Esta semana habrá otros estrenos como “Quédate a mi lado” dirigida por Michael Showalter, “Padre soldado” de Mathieu Vadepied, “El colibrí” de Francesca Archibugi o “La pecera” dirigida por Glorimar Marrero. 

Con la cantidad de estrenos que tendrán lugar a lo largo de este mes, seguro que hay más de una película que nos despierta curiosidad. Desde aquí os animamos a ir al cine y disfrutar de la experiencia única que se vive en las butacas de esas salas, con sonido envolvente e inversivo y una pantalla gigante proyectando las imágenes. ¿Qué mejor plan para un rato libre?

The premieres that will fill cinemas this May

As with every beginning of the month, we like to make a summary of the best premieres of it. May is loaded with countless premieres that will undoubtedly leave us glued to the cinema seats, and we tell you which are the most anticipated. 

In the first week of the month we have a total of 11 premieres of all kinds of genres. Among them, titles such as "Asedio" directed by Miguel Ángel Vivas or "Las buenas compañías" by Silvia Munt stand out. "Asedio" shows the life of Dani, a riot police officer who is just weeks away from being evicted. But luck seems to be on his side (or not) when in the middle of the eviction, a large amount of money ends up in Dani's hands. The money belongs to the relocation mafia, which exploits immigrants without resources. Dani discovers that it is his own co-workers who have organized the whole operation to share the loot.

"Las buenas compañías", on the other hand, shows the life of Bea, a 16-year-old girl in the summer of 1976. The protagonist is immersed in the movements of change that are beginning to take place in the country. But changes are not only happening outside, something inside Bea is beginning to change, especially after she strikes up a great friendship with Miren, a girl of good social status. The situation becomes more tense when personal and political interests get in the way of this friendship. 

The second week is also loaded with premieres, a total of 15, no more and no less. Among all these titles we could highlight "Love Again" directed by Jim Strouse, which tells the story of a woman who has just tragically lost the love of her life and her future fiancé. Never getting over her loss, she begins to send text messages to her deceased partner's old phone number. To her surprise, the number has been reassigned to another man who lives across town and who, like her, has also suffered a similar heartbreak. The two decide to meet and immediately feel an undeniable connection. But they are unable to forget the past. Not until Celine Dion's music enters the scene and helps to break down the barrier that separates them. 

But don't worry, if you're more of a horror fan than a drama fan, don't worry, there are releases for you too. Also hitting the big screen this week is "Slasher" by Alberto Armas Diaz. It tells the story of Julio, a young man whose mother gives him a mask for his 18th birthday, like the one his father used to commit murder. Julio will find himself at a crossroads where he will have to choose between continuing his family's psychopathic legacy or embracing love for Úrsula, a girl who has just arrived in town. 

The third week features 13 new releases. Among them, Tomasz Baginski's "Knights of the Zodiac" stands out. A live-action film based on the anime saga “Knights of the Zodiac". When the young and stubborn Seiya discovers he has mystical powers, he will enter a new world of warring Holy Knights. He will then receive magical training to protect a reincarnated goddess. His survival will depend on sacrificing everything to take his rightful place among the Knights of the Zodiac. 

This week will also feature the highly anticipated premiere of “Fast X" directed by Zach Braff. The latest installment of this very famous movie saga will arrive on May 19. In it we will be able to see Dom Toretto and his family, who cannot lead a quiet life as they wish and are forced to form a team to survive. Now, they have become the main target of the son of drug trafficker Hernan Reyes, who is out for revenge. In this last installment we will be able to enjoy one last time the greatest adrenaline, speed and action from the hand of its great protagonist: Vin Diesel. 

To end the month, the last week is no less than the others and will feature a total of 8 premieres, including "The Little Mermaid", the live action film directed by Bob Marshall, which has generated so much controversy since its first announcement. The movie will show the adventures of Princess Ariel and her sea friends with a great cast of wonderful actors such as Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy. Undoubtedly, Disney is getting a taste for live action. This week there will be other premieres such as "Quédate a mi lado" directed by Michael Showalter, "Tirailleurs" by Mathieu Vadepied, “Il colibrì" by Francesca Archibugi or "La pecera" directed by Glorimar Marrero.

With the amount of premieres that will take place throughout this month, there is sure to be more than one film that arouses our curiosity. From here we encourage you to go to the movies and enjoy the unique experience that is lived in the seats of these theaters, with surround and inverse sound and a giant screen projecting images.
