Ahora que se ha estrenado la temporada entera, la cual ha culminado con su séptimo capitulo estrenado el pasado viernes en Movistar +, podemos realmente hablar de si esta comparativa es certera o no.
Hay que empezar diciendo que no se puede negar que, de primeras, ambas series cuentan con muchos aspectos en común.
En primer lugar, la época en la que están ambientadas. Aunque no es exactamente la misma ya que la serie americana transcurre en la década de los 80 y la española en los 90, permite que ambas series compartan temáticas y referentes culturales muy parecidos, de ahí que elementos como el vestuario sean similares.
Del mismo modo que Stranger Things se retroalimenta de películas como los Goonies o Cazafantasmas, Paraíso está muy influenciada por Las chicas de Alcásser y la música de Mecano. Esto es, quizás, lo que más se ha comentado, la serie de González Molina, aunque un poco americanizada, ha sabido mostrar una versión española del estereotipado drama sobrenatural: los veranos en Valencia, las pandillas de amigos y la nostalgia noventera juegan un papel esencial en que esta serie que ya ha sido renovada por una segunda temporada funcione en territorio nacional.
Por otro lado, tenemos el argumento, que también es bastante parecido en ambos casos. Las dos series tienen como desencadenante una desaparición, están protagonizadas por una pandilla de chicos frikis e incomprendidos y en ambas ficciones los enemigos son de carácter fantástico. En un principio estos puntos en común parecen bastante arrolladores, sin embargo, también es cierto que son muchas las historias que, del mismo modo tienen una trama bastante parecida como Los Goonies o Stand by me.
Además de las similitudes en el argumento, también hay muchos paralelismos temáticos como “el otro lado” que simboliza el mundo de los “no muertos” en Paraíso y el mundo “del revés” en Stranger Things ; “el laboratorio” siendo la guarida en la presa de agua donde retienen a las chicas desparecidas en Almanzora y el Laboratorio Nacional de Hawkings donde crecio Eleven, la protagonista de la serie de los hermanos Duffer ; o la feria que se muestra durante la tercera temporada de Stranger Things y en el cuarto episorio de Paraiso titulado “La feria”.
A su vez hay muchos aspectos estéticos y de la puesta en escena que se parecen bastante como la iluminación, la utilización de colores retro, la profundidad de campo o el contraste tonal que si bien son similares también hay que señalar que también son los típicos de una ficción fantástica con tonos oscuros.
La principal diferencia que podríamos señalar y que mas sorprendió al publico fue el hecho de que los protagonistas de la serie de movistar murieran al final del primer capitulo. Este fue un giro que nadie venia venir y que permitió darle a la trama una perspectiva distinta de lo que estamos acostumbrados a ver, y que de seguro no esperábamos de esta serie en ninguno de los adelantos y promociones.
Por tanto y siguiendo la pregunta de nuestro titular, ¿es la serie de Movistar + Paraíso el nuevo StrangerThings la respuesta sería si y no. Aunque es cierto que ambas series cuentan muchas similitudes e inevitablemente pensemos en Stranger Things cuando veamos Paraíso, Fernandez Molina ha sabido crear un universo fresco y entretenido y bastante brillante técnicamente que tiene como mayor punto a favor la nostalgia y funciona muy bien por si mismo sin necesidad de comparaciones.

Is the Movistar + series Paraiso the new Stranger Things?
From the first promotional images, through the teasers and trailers that have been released of the series by Fernando González Molina, the idea that Paraiso was going to be the Spanish version of the successful Netflix series StrangerThings has been sold.
Now that the entire season has been released and culminated with its seventh episode which premiered last Friday on Movistar +, we can talk about whether this comparison is accurate or not.
We must start by saying that it cannot be denied that, from a standing point of view both, series have many aspects in common.
In the first place, the time in which they are set. Although it is not the same since the American series takes place in the 80s and the Spanish series in the 90s, it allows both series to share very similar themes and cultural references, hence elements such as the wardrobe are similar.
In the same way that Stranger Things feeds from films like The Goonies or Ghostbusters, Paraíso is highly influenced by The Girls of Alcásser and the music of Mecano. This is, perhaps, what has been commented on the most, the González Molina series, although a bit Americanized, has managed to show a Spanish version of the stereotypical supernatural drama: summers in Valencia, gangs of friends, and 90s nostalgia play a big role in this tv show, which has already been renewed for a second season.
On the
other hand, we can comment on the argument of the show, which is also quite
similar in both cases. The two series are triggered by a disappearance, they
are led by a gang of geeky and misunderstood boys and in both fictions, the
enemies are supernatural. At first, these points in common seem quite
overwhelming, however, it is also true that there are many stories that, in the
same way, have a quite similar plot as The Goonies or Stand by me.
In addition to the similarities in the plot, there are also many thematic parallels such as "the other side" symbolizing the world of the "undead" in Paradise and the world "upside-down" in Stranger Things; "The laboratory" being the lair in the water dam where they keep the disappeared girls in Almanzora and the Hawkings National Laboratory where Eleven, the protagonist of the Duffer brothers' series, grew up; or the fair that is shown during the third season of Stranger Things and in the fourth episode of Paraiso entitled "The fair."
In turn, there are many aesthetic and staging aspects that are quite similar, such as lighting, the use of retro colors, depth of field, or tonal contrast, which although similar, should also be noted that is also typical of a fantastic fiction with dark tones.
The main difference that we could point out and that surprised the public the most was the fact that the protagonists of the Movistar series died at the end of the first chapter. This was a twist that nobody had come to see and that allowed them to give the plot a different perspective than what we are used to seeing, and that we surely did not expect from this series in any of the previews and promotions.
Therefore,
and following our headline's question, is the Movistar + "Paraiso"
series the new "Stranger Things" the answer would be yes and no.
Although it is true that both series have many similarities and inevitably, we
think of Stranger Things when we see Paraiso, Fernandez Molina has managed to
create fresh entertaining, and technically outstanding that has nostalgia as
its main point in favor and works on its own very well without the need of
comparisons.
