VUELTA A CASA DE MI MADRE

“Vuelta a casa de mi madre” es una comedia francesa dirigida por Eric Lavaine, que también escribió el guión junto con Héctor Cabello Reyes.

La película cuenta la historia de Stephanie (Alexandra Lamy), que a sus cuarenta años se ve obligada a volver a vivir en casa de su madre (Josiane Balasko) al quebrar su empresa. Aunque su madre la recibe con los brazos abiertos, la vida de ambas ha seguido adelante y deberán encontrar un equilibrio para su convivencia, sobretodo ahora que su madre guarda un secreto que aún no ha contado a ninguno de sus hijos.  

Con unos personajes bastante trabajados y con diferentes capas para una comedia, esta historia atrapa al espectador, sobre todo gracias a la madre de Stephanie, que gracias a sus peculiaridades y a sus idas y venidas consigue ser el personaje más atractivo del film.

Aunque se trata de una película que desata las risas por ser un reflejo del entorno familiar, los diferentes conflictos que aparecen en torno a los personajes, como el paro, el divorcio, la muerte del padre, etc. se dejan de lado y no se toman como un punto de reflexión; sin embargo, el director nos abre las puertas al hogar familiar para ir más allá de las risas, ablandándonos con los recuerdos que todos guardamos de nuestra infancia y nuestra vida con la familia.  

 

Se trata de una película muy correcta, que respeta el diseño básico de la historia en un guion que consigue mantener fresco y que, si bien hace pasar un buen rato, tampoco nos lleva a nada más. Cabe comentar que la resolución de la trama se ve precipitada, sobre todo si tenemos en cuenta el tiempo que tarda la película en arrancar con las primeras tramas de los personajes. También hay que añadirle el uso de un par de escenas que aportan no aportan mucho a la historia y cuyo tiempo se podría haber empleado para desarrollar el final, que parece resolverse como por arte de magia.

 BACK TO MOM’S

 “Back to mom’s” is a French comedy directed by Eric Lavaine and written by Lavainen together with Héctor Cabello Reyes. The film follows the story of Stephanie (Alexandra Lamy), who after forty years and the bankruptcy of her company, is forced to live back at her mum’s house (Josiane Balasko). Obviously, Stephanie is received with open arms but it soon becomes clear that both of their lives have moved forward in different directions. They will have to find a way to keep their relationship balanced in order for them to happily co-exist under the same roof. Especially now when the mum is keeping a secret, and none of her children knows about it yet.

 

Comedies have the reputation of playing with stereotypes, entertaining viewers with non fleshed out personalities. However, this film is very good in developing and outlining its characters, allowing us to get closer to them. Among the characters that are introduced, the best one is the mum: with her peculiar behaviour, she is able to capture the viewer’s attention. However, even if the film gains most of its laughter from the family environment and antics, the different conflicts that appear throughout the characters, such as unemployment, divorce, the death of the father, etc. are left to one side and are not taken to be reflection points. But the director opens the doors of the family’s house to go beyond laughters, moving us with our memories of our own childhood and life with our family.

This film is good in following basic storytelling devices and has got a fresh writing, which makes this film something enjoyable to watch. The plot’s resolution felt too rushed and seemed to have been resolved by magic, which is unfortunate, especially when the film takes its time to develop the plots of the main characters. In addition, the film suffered by having a couple of scenes that did not add anything to the plot, which could have been spent on developing a better end.
