Las grandes protagonistas del Festival de Cine de Málaga 2023

Desde el pasado viernes 10 de marzo hasta este domingo 19 se celebra el Festival de Cine de Málaga, uno de los festivales de cine español más importantes. Este año, y cada vez un poco más, el papel de las mujeres en la industria del cine ha tenido gran relevancia. Así lo indicaba en ministro de Cultura Miquel Iceta: “El cine español está viviendo un gran momento gracias al empuje de nuestras mujeres cineastas”. En esta edición de los famosos premios ha habido numerosas mujeres reconocidas por sus trabajos en la industria cinematográfica: 

La script Yuyi Beringola recibió la pasada noche el Premio Ricardo Franco por dedicar toda su vida al oficio que tanto ama. Comentaba que adora su trabajo porque en sus inicios, más que en la actualidad, era muy tímida y ser script le daba la oportunidad de estar dentro pero también fuera. Sin duda se ajusta a su personalidad, así lo afirmaba ella misma. Con la evolución de todas la nuevas tecnologías, la script cuenta que ha pasado por todo, desde la máquina de escribir, el ordenador, el portátil hasta hoy, en el que su mejor aliado es el iPad. Sus padres también trabajaron en el sector cinematográfico antes que ella y, sin duda alguna, la primera vez que pisó un rodaje, la pequeña Yuyi ya tuvo claro a qué querría dedicarse el resto de su vida. 

Carla Subirana es otra de las grandes protagonistas de esta edición, salta del documental a la ficción con “Sica” una historia de pérdidas y descubrimientos ambientada en Costa da Morte. Fue el pequeño pueblo de Costa da Morte y sus salvajes paisajes lo que impulsó a la directora a salirse de lo habitual para ella e introducirse en nuevos terrenos como el de la ficción. La guionista y directora, junto con la directora de casting, hicieron un casting exhaustivo dentro del propio pueblo. Ella tenía muy claro que quería que los protagonistas tenían que ser gente de allí, quería que los personajes fuesen lo más fieles posibles a la gente del pueblo, y que mejor que sus propios habitantes que ya le aportan al relato la credibilidad de los acentos, el habla y los rostros. En cuanto apareció Thais, una de las chicas del pueblo, supo ella sería Sica, era tal cual había imaginado y descrito a su protagonista. Carla afirma que no le ha supuesto un gran cambio pasar del documental a la ficción ya que ella en sus documentales siempre trabaja con ficción y buscando el arco dramático.

Tras arrasar en el palmarés 2018 con “Las distancias”, la directora Elena Trapé es otra de las protagonistas del Festival de Málaga 2023. Presenta “Els Encantats” una historia con un origen anterior al rodaje de “Las distancias”. Trata de una experiencia personal a raíz de la cual se fue armando la historia. Evidentemente, las películas no tratan personalmente de la vida de los directores o protagonistas pero siempre tienen mucho de ellos en los personajes y la historia. Lo que sin duda afirma Elena Trapé es que hoy en día hay más gente con ganas de producir las historias que las mujeres quieren contar. Afirma que ha habido un gran avance, pero que todavía queda mucho por hacer para conseguir cierta igualdad de representación femenina en este sector. 

Por supuesto, no podemos dejarnos en el tintero a la gran Blanca Portillo. Una de las actrices más brillantes de nuestro país que ha recibido en esta edición del festival el Premio Málaga a su impecable trayectoria. Desde sus inicios, siempre ha trabajado en cine hecho por mujeres, empezando por “Entre Rojas” en 1995 de Azucena Rodríguez, hasta las más actuales como “Maixabel” y “Teresa” firmadas por Iciar Bollain y Paula Ortiz. Su primer trabajo se lo ofreció Gracia Querejeta en “Siete mesas de billar francés” y también ha trabajado bajo las órdenes de Pilar Miró, Mar Targarona o Belén Macías, entre otras. La actriz afirma creer haber trabajado con más directoras que directores. Pero no podemos olvidar que también ha sido “chica Almodóvar” y ha interpretado papeles masculinos como Fray Emilio Bocanegra en Alatriste. Sin duda alguna, Blanca Portillo es una actriz todoterreno. 

Como ellas, muchas otras mujeres están destacando en esta semana de festival como Daniela Féjerman y Elvira Lindo que presentan fuera de concurso su película “Alguien que cuide de mí”, o Silvia Munt que presentaba el pasado lunes “Las buenas compañías” una película sobre la lucha de las mujeres en la transición para obtener sus derechos. El cine está lleno de mujeres con mucho talento y no solo delante de la cámara, detrás hay infinidad de cargos en los que ellas son tan válidas como ellos y cada día demuestran sus grandes dotes, pasión y dedicación por hacer un buen cine

The big stars of the Malaga Film Festival 2023 

The Malaga Film Festival, one of the most important Spanish film festivals, is being held from Friday 10th March until Sunday 19th. This year, and increasingly so, the role of women in the film industry has been of great importance. As the Minister of Culture Miquel Iceta said: "Spanish cinema is experiencing a great moment thanks to the direction of our female filmmakers". In this edition of the famous awards there have been numerous women recognised for their work in the film industry: 

The script Yuyi Beringola received last night the Ricardo Franco Award for dedicating her whole life to the profession she loves so much. She said that she loves her job because in her early days, more than today, she was very shy and being a script gave her the opportunity to be on the inside but also on the outside. It certainly suits her personality, as she herself stated. With the evolution of all the new technologies, the script says that she has gone through everything, from the typewriter, the computer, the laptop until today, where her best ally is the iPad. Her parents also worked in the film industry before her and, without any doubt, the first time she set foot on a film set, little Yuyi already knew what she wanted to do for the rest of her life.

Carla Subirana is another of the great protagonists of this edition, jumping from documentary to fiction with "Sica", a story of loss and discovery set in Costa da Morte. It was the small village of Costa da Morte and its wild landscapes that prompted the director to break away from the usual for her and enter new terrain such as fiction. The scriptwriter and director, together with the casting director, did an exhaustive casting within the village itself. She was sure that she wanted the main characters to be local people, she wanted the characters to be as faithful as possible to the people of the village, and who better than the inhabitants themselves, who bring to the story the credibility of accents, speech and faces. As soon as Thais, one of the village girls, appeared, she knew she would be Sica, she was just as she had imagined and described her protagonist. Carla says that it hasn't been a big change for her to go from documentary to fiction, as she always works with fiction in her documentaries, always looking for the dramatic arc. 

After sweeping the 2018 awards with "Las distancias", director Elena Trapé is another of the stars of the Malaga Festival 2023. She presents "Els Encantats", a story with an origin prior to the filming of "Las distancias". It deals with a personal experience from which the story was put together. Obviously, the films are not personally about the lives of the directors or protagonists, but they always have a lot of them in the characters and the story. What Elena Trapé undoubtedly affirms is that nowadays there are more people willing to produce the stories that women want to tell. She affirms that there has been great progress, but that there is still a long way to go to achieve a certain equality of female representation in this sector.

Of course, we cannot leave out the great Blanca Portillo. One of the most brilliant actresses in our country who has received the Malaga Award for her impeccable career at this year's festival. From her beginnings, she has always worked in films made by women, starting with "Entre Rojas" in 1995 by Azucena Rodríguez, to more recent films such as "Maixabel" and "Teresa" by Iciar Bollain and Paula Ortiz. Her first job was offered to her by Gracia Querejeta in "Siete mesas de billar francés" and she has also worked under the orders of Pilar Miró, Mar Targarona and Belén Macías, among others. The actress says she believes she has worked with more female directors than male directors. But we cannot forget that she has also been an "Almodóvar girl" and has played male roles such as Fray Emilio Bocanegra in Alatriste. Without a doubt, Blanca Portillo is an all-round actress. 

Like them, many other women are standing out in this week of the festival, such as Daniela Féjerman and Elvira Lindo who are presenting their film "Alguien que cuide de mí" out of competition, or Silvia Munt who presented last Monday "Las buenas compañías", a film about the struggle of women in the transition to obtain their rights. Cinema is full of very talented women and not only in front of the camera, behind the camera there are countless positions in which women are as valid as men are and every day they demonstrate their great talent, passion and dedication to making good films.
