Peter O’TOOLE, inolvidable Lawrence de Arabia

El actor de origen Irlandés Peter O’Toole, que interpretó el mítico Lawrence de Arabia, murió el sábado 14 de Diciembre, a los 81 años.  Es una perdida enorme para el mundo del cine que dice adiós a uno de los actores más talentosos de su generación.

Gano la admiración y el reconocimiento del público y de toda la profesión gracias a la precisión de sus interpretaciones y la diversidad de sus personajes (actuó en más de 80 películas a lo largo de su carrera).

Después de trabajar en periodismo y en la marina Inglesa, estudió teatro en la Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, antes de convertirse en un miembro de la Old Vic Bristol.

Empezó su carrera en el cine en los años 1960 y conoció la consagración con su famoso papel de Lawrence de Arabia. Personaje aventurero y carismático, le daría más tarde la oportunidad de interpretar papeles misteriosos, históricos e imponentes.

Su formación teatral le permitió actuar tanto en el teatro como el cine, en diferentes géneros. Después de sus papeles dramáticos, actúo con otras grandes estrellas del cine en películas de acción, de terror o en comedias: Becket (1962); ¿Qué tal Pussycat ? (1965) ; La Biblia (1966) ; Como robar un millón (1966) ; Club Paradise (1968) ; La noche de los generales (1967) ; Adiós, Mr Chips (1969) ; Rosebud (1975) ; El último Emperador(1987) ; Rafi, un rey de peso (1991) y Phantoms (1998).

En 2004 interpretó el rey Príamo en la súper exitosa Troya de Wolfgang Petersen antes de embarcarse en un nuevo registro en 2007, prestando su voz al crítico culinario del dibujo animado de Pixar Ratatouille. Fue elogiado por el público y la crítica con su interpretación de un periodista alcohólico en Jeffrey Bernard is Unswell.

Conocido por sus excesos (el alcohol y el juego), fue nominado a los Óscar ocho veces antes de finalmente ganar la famosa estatuilla en 2003 por la totalidad de su carrera.

The Irish actor, who played the legendary Lawrence of Arabia, passed away last  Saturday 14^th December, at the age of 81.  It’s a great loss for the world  cinema which says goodbye to one of the most talented actor of its generation.

He won the audience and critics’ hearts over with the accuracy of his interpretations and the diversity of his characters (he played in more than 80 movies throughout his career).

After having worked as a  journalist and in the Royal English Marine, he studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts before becoming a member of the Old Vic Bristol.

He started at the world cinema in the 60’s and established as an actor playing the famous Lawrence of Arabia. Charismatic and adventurer, this character made him able to play other important, historical and mysterious characters.

His theatrical training made him able to be a polyvalent actor, acting in cinema and theater, in different genres. After his dramatic roles, he acted with other celebrities in action and horror movies and also in comedies: Becket (1962); What’s new Pussycat? (1965) ; The Bible (1966) ; How to Steal a  Million (1966) ; Club Paradise (1968) ; The Night of The Generals (1967) ; Goodbye, Mr Chips (1969) ; Rosebud (1975) ; The Last Emperor (1987) ; King Ralph (1991) and Phantoms (1998).

In 2004 he played the king Priam in the famous Troy by Wolfgand Petersen before working on a new record by “lending” his voice to the food critic for the Pixar animation Ratatouille. He also was praised by the audience and critics for his interpretation of an alcoholic journalist in Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell.

Famous for his excesses (alcohol and games), he was nominated for the Oscars eight times and finally received the famous award in 2003 for his entire career.
