es el retrato de la escena musical folk que a principios de los sesenta tomaba
forma en garitos, calles y demás sucedáneos neoyorquinos, donde el mecenas de
turno podía encumbrarte a lo más alto si ese binomio tan perseguido por muchos,
compuesto de: talento más una ración doble de suerte, aparecía sin más, delante
de nuestros ojos.

Munford son los encargados de transportarnos a esa
época, utilizando como máquina del tiempo una banda sonora que recupera temas
míticos del momento, que son interpretados en su integridad, situando al
espectador en la piel del protagonista, justamente donde Joel y Ethan creen que
puede ser la mejor ubicación para obtener una excepcional visión global de la
historia.

The Coen Brothers return to battle with one of those films which surely
will be part of the altar that any film buff reserves for jobs with a premature
nature unless they pass that considerable time which is quite essential for
these purposes.
Touches of human frailty combined with big dreams
whose fate is no other than a dark alley revealing a stark reality, finishing
with any delusions of grandeur that a musician who believes in himself can
have. A human being among many, drowning and crushing his desire for glory. A
guy with a pressing talent which invites him to keep looking success through a
glass as hard and opaque as the surrounding reality. "Inside Lewyn Davis", is the portrait of the musical scene folk that took
shape in clubs, streets and other New
York pubs, where any patron could elevate you to the top in the early 60’s if
that so desired by many, consisting of talent plus twice the luck, appeared before your eyes.
An epic adventure of true heroes, those to whom the
Coen do homage in so many of their films; heroes who will never see hanging a
medal from their necks, ordinary people whose daily battles no one would want
to hear about, street people frozen by an icy climate and human landscape,
willing to pursue its Holy Grail beyond the end of the Earth. This way we can
see a Lewyn Davis (Oscar
Isaac), who could be one
of many opening doors to talent with more luck and from his unnoticed stage
catapulted to fame, unknowingly, legends like Bob Dylan or Janis Joplin.

Burnett and Marcus Munford take us to
that time, using a soundtrack as a time machine: a soundtrack that retrieves
mythic themes of that moment, which are played in their entirety, by putting
the viewer in the protagonist’s shoes, right where, according to Joel and Ethan, we can
get an exceptional overview of the story.
According to Joel Coen: “A folk singer gets beat up in
the alleyway behind Gerde’s Folk
City ; that could be the
beginning of a movie”. They only had to write the rest of the script. With
exceptional music and cast, Carey
Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, Max
Casella and Jhon Goodman among others, this film has already won prizes such
as the Grand Prize of the jury at Cannes
or the Gotham Award (independent
film), just a prelude to upcoming awards.
