Los Oscar llegan a Callao

La madrugada del lunes en los cines más antiguos de Madrid, los cines Callao, se proyectaba en directo la gala de los premios Oscar gracias a Canal +.

La noche se presentaba larga para los asistentes pero aun así, dos extensas filas de gente se agolpaban con el frío de la noche a las puertas del famoso cine esperando su turno para entrar, acompañados por una réplica gigante de la estatuilla más famosa del cine.

La espera tuvo su recompensa, cuando al fin la multitud pudo entrar a encontrar una butaca donde pasaría las siguientes 8 horas, el equipo de Canal Hollywood les recibía con un ticket canjeable por unas palomitas y una bebida gratuitas.  Durante el resto de la noche hubo también cerveza y multitud de colaboradores que trataban de hacer las estancia de los invitados lo más placentera posible.

Al poco tiempo de acceder a la sala, las luces se apagaban y comenzaba a emitirse la señal de Canal + con el debate que tenían Toni Garrido, la actriz Alexandra Jiménez y el director de la Revista Cinemanía, Carlos Marañón acompañados de sus colaboradores. Durante algún tiempo –demasiado diría yo- estuvimos escuchando los vaticinios y quinielas de los allí presentes y sus comentarios poco sustanciales en vez de conectar directamente con la Alfombra Roja, que muchos seguíamos por Twitter. Sin lugar a dudas lo mejor del programa fueron las conexiones con la reportera Cristina Teva, corresponsal en Los Ángeles.

Por fin a la 01:00 se conectaba con la emisión de la cadena norteamericana ABC para la alegría de los presentes que recibían la señal con aplausos. Durante una hora pudimos ver todo el paseíllo de famosos por la alfombra, conectando con Cristina Teva y siguiendo las entrevistas que ABC hacía a los asistentes con un doblaje que, ya podíamos intuir, nos molestaría más adelante.

A las 2 aproximadamente comenzaba la gala dirigida por Ellen DeGeneres. Los dobladores se esforzaban por seguir los discursos de la presentadora y los premiados con bastantes problemas debido a la simultaneidad. Los problemas del doblaje llevaron a la pérdida de muchos detalles para el público de Canal +, como las bromas de Ellen o el sentido de muchos discursos; incluso “doblaban” los nombres en los agradecimientos provocando una especie de eco molesto que no dejaba ni escuchar bien el discurso ni entenderlo correctamente.

Durante las pausas publicitarias de la gala, Canal + volvía a la tertulia de Toni Garrido –el menos acertado de la mesa en sus comentarios- para analizar los nuevos acontecimientos, estudiar el impacto en twitter y elucubrar sobre los premios que quedaban por entregar.

A las 6 de la mañana la gala terminaba y los cines Callao respiraban en silencio tras una noche en la que los asistentes vivieron los premios Oscar como nunca, aplaudiendo a los personajes más queridos y protestando sobre los premios más polémicos, unos premios muy especiales que no podrán olvidar.

Oscars at Callao

Last Monday night in the oldest Madrid theatre, Callao, took place the live retransmission of the Oscars Awards by Canal + .

The night was expected to be long and yet the famous cinema’s gate was crowded with people waiting for the event in the cold night, accompanied by a giant replica of the golden Oscar.

The wait was rewarded, when finally the crowd could to get in and find a seat where they would spend the next 8 hours. The Canal Hollywood team received them with a ticket for free popcorns and a drink. During the rest of the evening there was also beer and many assistants who tried to make the night as pleasant as possible for the guests.

When people were settled down the lights went out and the Canal + airing began with the debate between Toni Garrido, the actress Alexandra Jimenez and the Cinemanía Magazine director, Carlos Marañón; accompanied by their reviewers. For a while –maybe too much- we were listening to the predictions and bets of collaborators and their little substantive comments instead of connecting directly with the Red Carpet that many of us were following through Twitter. The best part of the program, no doubt, was the connections with reporter Cristina Teva, the L.A. correspondent.

Finally at 01:00 a.m. the emission connected with the American network ABC, for the joy of the presents that received it with an applause. For over an hour we could see the celebrities walking on the carpet, connecting with Cristina Teva and following the ABC interviews with a bad dubbing that –we knew since then- would extremely bother us later.

The gala began at 02:00 a.m. hosted by Ellen DeGeneres. Dubbers struggled to follow the host and the speeches, having many problems because of the simultaneity. The problems of dubbing  led to the loss of many details for the public of Canal +, such as Ellen jokes or the sense of many speeches; they even dubbed the names in the speeches causing kind of an annoying echo that didn’t let us either listen the actual speech or understanding the translation properly.

                                                                              
During commercial breaks of the gala, Canal + returned to the debate of Toni Garrido –the worst reviewer there with his comments- to discuss new developments, consider the impact on twitter and ramble on about the remaining awards.

The 86^th Oscars Awards gala ended at 06:00 a.m. Callao Theatre breathed quietly after a night in which participants lived the Oscars as never before, clapping the most beloved characters and complaining about the most controversial awards, very special awards they would never forget.
