Nick
Cave o Bo Diddley
. El tema de los títulos de crédito, “Far from any road”, de
The Handsome family, ya no podría subsistir
sin el soporte visual al que acompaña. De igual modo el tema final,
“The angry river”, representa ese halo

Series with own authenticity
Huge is the satisfaction and the rewarding tickling that
crosses us from head to toe when, while zapping, we discover a series that has
little or nothing to do with the format of commercial product produced almost
exclusively to raise the level of audience. "True Detective" may cross that line which is out of reach of the
viewer who is content with something less sophisticated, easy to digest. It
goes far beyond and climbs a rung of that scale of qualities where this
succulent food is reserved only for gourmets. And one’s got to provide oneself
with the best equipment to get to taste a dish like the one who Nic Pizzolatto is offering us. The responsible for the series have pampered excessively
every detail so that it requires the highest concentration.
We could suggest bland topics like, "What's good,
when brief, is twice as good", although in this occasion the eight
chapters of this season, which ended with a record of audience on HBO, 4.9
million viewers, are not enough.
The ingenious formula of focusing the series on the
two protagonists (Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson), two actors in State of grace, (McConaughey has been
awarded an Oscar), is one of the director’s key, Cary Fukunaga,
to dazzle friends and strangers in that extensive interval of time (1995-2012) on
which the changes in the personal lives of the characters must be reflected.
Idyllic landscapes, sequences that you can’t get
enough of, a great soundtrack by T.Bone Burnett,
which is just icing on the cake or perhaps on this occasion something more,
with songs by Dylan, Nick Cave
and Bo Diddley. The opening song, "Far from any road", by The Handsome family, couldn’t survive anymore without visual support. In
the same way the closing theme, "The angry river", represents this hypnotic aura that somehow involves
the series.
In addition, there are many literary references that influence
the series. "The King in
yellow" by Robert W. Chambers another authors such as Raymond Chandler, H.P.Lovecraft or Nietzsche;
another turning point to be taken into account for a series which wants to
stand out from the rest.
Naturally there will be a second season but according
to the protagonists’ statements, they will not embody this time the two
detectives, but Pizzolatto said the
following: "it is very soon, but I say unto you, that it shall be about
women, evil men and the secret story of the system of transport of the US".
